My family never had any money. We were considered on the poorer side that's for sure. Now that I've established my career I do have to say that money alone doesn't make you happy but it sure makes you happier and easier to deal with the life's gotchas. So I'd have to say I'm happier with money......

One point from Jodi I think I see, and I definitely agree with is:

When we have money, we have options.

If something comes up unexpectedly, we can deal with it.

Money also can provide security. Not having to worry.

I've never been a money-oriented person.

But I've always wanted to try to have enough for when I get old.

I don't need money now, really. But if I live into my mid 60s and beyond, I'd rather have it than not.

Like I said in the other thread I am a minimalist so I could live in a studio, eat very basic food and all I would need is a library card, laptop, nice speakers for the laptop, paper/pen and a large coffee maker and I'd be set. Before I met my GF I had plenty of money in the bank yet I lived in a 1 bedroom shared with a friend he had the bedroom I slept on a futon in the living room. We ate very simple food and went to the same bars where we knew the bartenders and got a lot of free drinks. My friend Ted, that I shared the Apartment with was more frugal than I was and he was rich, he had inherited a very nice condo in LA, had several hundred thousand dollars from stocks, saved every other paycheck had like six sets of shirts and shorts and 3 pairs of shoes. We were happy all we needed was some alcohol, a night out with friends and to get laid a few times a week...and Ted was a legend amongst my friends for getting chicks on any given night he could be seen sneaking out of the club with a new tourist girl or anyone of his regular on the side booty calls. HE would get in with one chick and then end up hooking me and my other friends up with her friends and we'd end up all sleeping in these girls hotel rooms for the week they were on vacation, running up their room service bills and just having a great time hanging with them at the beach or the clubs....If that's not fun on the cheap then I don't know what is.....
Oh man, this sounds like such a killer time.

I'm somewhat frugal, but only in that I don't like to overpay for things I know I could get cheaper. For example, I rarely buy anything at regular price (with the exception of certain groceries that never go on sale). I shop around and do my research for semi-big purchases and up. You don't need to spend a lot to live well. Having connections would be very beneficial with or without the money. My bro works for Best Buy corporate, so we get a lot of things very cheap through his employee discount and accomodations. My current job as well as people I have met through work has allowed me to do a lot of house projects for cheap.
