Women, why do so many of you get a tatoo on the small of your back?

As a man, I think it is sexy, kind of, although I prefer no tats. I am thinking though, that it is there really for the man when you have doggy-style sex. Kind of a label, or brand even, especially if he asked you to put it there.

Does it ever come up when you move on to a different lover?

Scenario: "What's that tat mean? Oh that, my ex used to call that 'his little bullseye.'

I have a baseball size tattoo on the small of my back of a tribal dragon and Tae Kwon Do in Korean. It is my first (and most likely my only) tattoo. I'm dedicated to TKD and my tattoo symbolizes this for me. The dragon seemed to fit the characters and represents power. As for placing it there, I did partially because of the trendy aspect, but also because it's an area that doesn't shrink with weight loss, grow with weight gain, can be easily hidden with clothing, and isn't in my face when I look in the mirror.

the lower back tats are sexy i think, i no a lot of guys down here like them on a girl ... i'm going to get one once i lose some more weight! i was thinking maybe a butterfly with some tribal design on the sides (nothin to big ... decent size) ... i think most girls get them for the look mainly ... that's the reason i'm getting mine, it looks really good if you have a cute one and ur wearing a bikini or low rise jeans and a short kinda top!! .. any guys agree?

I sure as hell agree. I think they look damn hot. :lick:

Why, does IT have one?

<------Not a big fan of tats in general, but they wouldn't stop me from making babies.

Just because that is where I wanted to have my third one. :thumb:

Thanks for the answers, they make great sense. I guess the only thing that would suck is if a girl put one there because of a certain dude, and then the relationship ended.

That situation doesn't fit any of you ladies, good for you!

Personally, i hate those tats.

Im usually not attracted to tattoo'd women to begin with, but i dont mind too much when theyve got some unique ink... sort of personalized. I cant friggin stand how every girl i meet now has one of those "stripper tats" on her lower back, though. It just seems like this ever-lasting beacon of unoriginality theyve got written into their skin - since nearly every one of their peers has the same thing.

Of course, i seem to be in the minority - most of my friends either done care or love them. ;)

Monolith, you are absolutely right. I have no argument. I'm absolutely unoriginal, however I don't regret the tattoo that I have as I believe other people will in time. I worked at an Adult Foster Home where an 80 year old woman resided. She had three butterflies (tats) on her hand. She hated them. My opinion/advice would be to have meaning behind your tattoo. Sure roses or dragonflies, whatever, are stylish, but they won't be for long, neither will your tattoo.

My wife had got her tat before the whole lower back tattoo craze started. Now it's just a fashion thing. Monolith .. I always chuckle when I see the tat you described  because I feel like saying "Hey ... nice tat. I saw 14 other teenagers hanging out at the mall with the same one."

adrien ... you have thought yours out. If you could relate a dragonfly/rose to your thoughts/ideas, then in my opinion it's more than stylish. To each their own I guess. I love the lower back tattoo. It's a great way to start a conversation. Still teaching my single friends the ins/outs of starting conversation (yes, I know it's sad but there are so many that need the help )

I seriously considered having Airborne wings Tatt'd on me someplace when I was a paratrooper, just could not decide where. Thought about the classic forearm tat, or maybe the big across the upper back tat, but I have just settled for growing out my back hair instead

I say dont get tats...I thought about i long and hard. I mean LONG AND HARD. Yeah but seriously 15 years down the road or so youll wish you hadnt.

You know the nickname for tatoos on the small of your back? Cum target.

i dont regret any of my tattoos and i dont think anyone else would as long as they put some thought into what they are getting. i always advise people to get tattoos that describe who they are as a person.

I don't find them appealing, myself. I know alot of guys like them, but I'm not one of them. Most of the time, anyway.

If it's something original I might appreciate it, but most go for tribal designs and that is lamer than lame. I knew a girl that had a frog jumping off a lily pad into her vagina and I thought that was pretty cool.
