If you work in an office environment, you probably have annual get togethers or parties

It seems that they try to find the smallest excuse to have a party. The other day it was the "Spring" party. Before that it was the Easter Party, and the Hotdog party. There were probably 10 "parties" inbetween the superbowl and Easter. In all, about 25 parties a year.

These parties are really get togethers where one consumes above their caloric maintenance level in calories in one sitting. Meals consist of sugars, transfats, and high GI carbs.

These people gorge themselves until they are bloated. The next day they vow to get in shape and start "dieting" by drinking diet coke and avoiding all carbs. Within 48 hours they've had enough and cheat again. But alas, they promise to get in shape.

It's an endless cycle, where people get progressively larger.

Does anyone else have these "parties" at their workplace?

BBQ's and the occasional party. Not as frequent as that. I make sure to enjoy myself and don't worry about it.

Keyword: "frequency." When you enjoy yourself every week... it's not really a special occasion, it's just an excuse to eat like crap.

My job only had one Big party
And then a potluck at the end of each month.
I had a coworker who was nearing fifty and the only thing she would talk about was food.
When she was fat, it was about what she thought was yummy, what she had ate for supper, what you had ate for supper. etc

then when she decided to lose weight she would tlk about what se couldnt eat, what she wished she could eat, and how long it would take her to burn it off

My job never has parties... but I worked for a company in Calgary that had great parties.

One night the marketing guys took us to a strip club and allowed us to expense everything... including the loonies that were given to the girls.

We had a monthly company wide status meeting on the last friday of the month. It consisted of about a half hour of talking about where the company was going followed by 3-4 of heavy drinking...

... we also had a beer vending machine in the office and hard liquor in the refigerator most of the time. It was a great fun place to work in my 20s. I don't think I could do it now though.

I might be moving to calgary lol...what company was it??

In my previous job, it wasnt so much a party but more of a daily occurance of eating chocolate and crisps then complaining about their 'tummies' so to try and combat this indulgence, they would stick 'divina' on in the evening. (Davina is a horrid tv presentar who released a fitness dvd).

Every week here! Yesterday was the weekly luncheon. I just make up excuses not to go. Yesterday was some sort of Chinese buffet thing - :barf: No thanks!

They got bought out by a much larger company and all the fun and games ended...

Calgary is cool though. I grew up in Leduc but lived in Calgary for about 6 years. I like Calgary better than Edmonton. (although I would still cheer for the Oilers)

I could'nt care less for work food parties. Not high on my list of 'events' to go to.

However, on the other hand, heavy drinking and the office honey's.......

I am apposed to office parties. Why would you want to spend all day working with someone and then spend even more time with them after work. It would creep me out to socialize around people you work with/ for. Makes my skin craw just thinking about it. Thank god I work for myself so I don't have to worry about these inane attempts to bond with co-workers.

I like to socialize with my co-workers. We have fun. I just wish they would choose healthier places to eat. :(

I guess I'll just have to force feed chicken strips dipped in mashed potatoes and gravy to you.

I don't think so.............:barf:

The only party we have at my work is for Christmas and we usually go out to eat at a fairly nice place where we can get whatever we want... Healthy or otherwise. Then again, I'm not working in an office type environment right now. If I did and they had as many parties as BigDyl describes, I'd probably skip 95%+ of them.

I am the fucking party.

I have little parties myself at my desk, a little good music, a couple little pills and it's about to get groovin' and then it does and next thing I know it's 2 hours past closing and I'm still banging away at entering new items, prices, etc to new Supplier ID's or just wrote out 6 quotes for systems and didn't even know I was working. And I'm like wow I just earned some extra loot and feel fucking great, time to get in my car, crank up the radio and cruise home.....but wait I fucking love this song!!!!!! then an hour later..ok lets go home guys...car....music....speed...wind rush....tunnel vision nightmare glare of approaching headlights....night life madness swirling through the air....the spirits have dropped from bottle after bottle lingering until the burning disc of dawn burns them vapors and they ascend to heaven....
