true to a point. but by definition a dictatorship is absolute or despotic control or power. the Republicans control the Executive Branch, House, Senate and now the Federal Judiciary

Yes but a dictator is an absolute ruler who is not restricted by constitution, law, or political opposition, not a whole political party who is very much restricted by the constitution, law, and opposing political parties. And no matter how much people want to say Bush, or Republicans are a dictatorship, the fact that they can voice that opinion without being killed is proof that they aren't under a dictatorial rule.

Hard to say how long America will last, but all empires crumble so the day will come eventually. With the advances in technology and weapons I don't think it will last another century. Personally I give America about 40 or 50 years then it will be over.

So you think that our superpower status will only last 100years? Personally I do not think that we are even at our peak. Most world dominant civilizations sit at the top for 200-1000 years. The trend does seem to show that as history progresses the superpowers time at the top gets shorter. The Birtish empire probably has had the shotest reign. Maybe we'll be even shorter, but I doubt it.

You can argue that our country isn't dominant enough. When I studies abroad, I had a German prof. who thought we were to passive in our offenses in vietnam, Korea, and in Iraq. We never "finish" off our enemy. We just put them at bay. He said that we live in the present and never have plans for long term fixation. I guess our presidency supports that too. We are the only nation to completey revamp our federal power structure every election change. My experience in EU was very negative towards this. They basically think we are crazy, b/c when an andministration changes we change EVERYTHING..down to the file clercks and office secretaries. Americans definitely live in the here and now

so when they decide to take their economic power and stop making
lawn chairs, and start making guns and tanks, who's going to stand up to them?
All our plants are closing down, and our people are being put out of work.

The Chinese could easily switch to the production of war manufacturing and with 1.25 Billion people look out...Plus they would probably find dozens of Countries who would love to help kick Americas ass.

in reverse engineering and manufacturing

They steal technologies and machines... take them apart and build their own
they also steal and translate expensive software, and post it on a nationalized
webstie so anyone chinese can download and have access to it, They also provide nationalized training for the stolen technologies...

Most corporations have turned the other cheek on China's disregard for
world patents and intellectual property laws

while im not a big fan of china by any means, i think this thread is oversimplifying the situation. remember our military took 3 weeks to bahgdad with 3 divisions against 30-40 on their home turf. our military is better trained, better supplied, and better led than any other in the world. if it was a military war with china we have the man power sitting in reserve no problem. does anyone really think that if there was a draft the us is incapable of putting 1 million men in uniform if needed? what we are doing with an all enlisted army is amazing. remember other countries have mandatory service in the military. and if the fight is economic i like our chances as well. i remember so many people thinking Japan was going to ruin us economically in the 90's. Hell even michael crichton wrote the book rising sun touching on the subject.

and if we go to a war time economy in manufacturing does anyone think we cant produce anything we need? our unemployment is at 5% or so right now. not the best, but its not like we are dying economically. when our manufacturing shuts down our guys start jobs doing other things.

by the way china over the last 5 years has a net loss in manufacturing jobs as they begin to look for the low cost manufactures. they themselves have begun to ship jobs to countries like malaysia.

According to the CIA factbook China has 325million available MANpower to the military, and they do allow women to serve the army(I dont know about combat, but the can serve)

So minus what would be active military if they went to war.. They would still have almost 1 billion still producing- via forced labor(cost the govt very little) How long would it take to finish arming the army, then roll out another billion AKs for the 1 billion civilians.. meanwhile using their control of the press, spew propaganda and make the Chinese people fear for their lives because the Americans are coming to rape, torture, burn, and kill in that order..

So they have an army larger than our entire population to attack with, and at home they have 4 times our population playing defense and cranking out whatever need be- Tanks, aircraft, and China LOVES to make missiles.. and lets not forget the allies they could get.

One great resource available in China.. Uranium! Greeeatt!
But on the up side, by the time they do decide to invade Im sure the second amendment will finally be repealed and we can all live in peace.


Economical power is in their hands.. Our economy would go into a seizure if they told us F you, go away.. and that seizure would be a great time to attack...
