How is a gun free zone responsible for the shooting?

He was still able to obtain a gun....how gun free is it?

The real problem is WHO can obtain a gun, how was this lunatic able to buy a gun?

Please help me here.

The point is that if it weren't a gun free zone there might have been a law abiding citizen that had been carrying that could have taken the guy out before he took out that many people.

There are some facts about some of these school shootings of which you may not be aware. Do you know, for instance, that at least three shootings in high schools were stopped by civilians with guns? Civilians, not law enforcement. In one case a civilian was traveling past a school when he saw children running from the building. One told him that there was a student inside shooting people. The civilian pulled his gun, ran in side, and confronted the student. The student put down the gun and surrendered. In another case a high school vice-principal heard that there was a student in the hallways with a gun. He sprinted a half-mile to his car. He had a gun in his car so he had to park off campus. He then sprinted back with the gun to confront the student. Lives saved.

There have been many other cases where civilians with guns have prevented further carnage at the hands of killers. The media isn't fond of reporting these episodes because they don't contribute to the cause of gun control.

Now here's something that I have yet to see reported in the mainstream media. Earlier this year the Virginia General Assembly failed to act on House Bill 1572. The citizens of Virginia are permitted to carry concealed weapons if they get a proper permit from the state government --- unless you are on a college campus. This bill would have allowed college students and employees to carry handguns on campus --- with appropriate permits, of course. It died in subcommittee. After the bill was thrown out up steps Larry Hincker, a spokesman for Virginia Tech, the site of today's carnage, who says "I'm sure the university community is appreciative of the General Assembly's actions because this will help parents, students, faculty and visitors feel safe on our campus."

So .. how safe did these students and faculty in Norris Hall feel?

In a perfect world maybe, but we don't live in a perfect world.
He could have aimed at the guy but hit someone else....it happens all the time.
Look at what happened to that FBI agent who got shot by another agent, these guys are trained constantly.

One of the few good stories I ever heard about gun control.

I doubt the media would hide this, in this day and age we all want a hero like Charles Bronson in Deathwish saving people in trouble.

I wouldn't feel safe at all!
Come on, give a young cock strong testosterone filled student while downing a keg of beer a gun and imagine the fireworks.
I don't trust just anyone with a gun.

We had a party here once and we invited my brother in law friend.....a former NYC cop......long story short the cop got drunk and he decided to wave his gun at everyone.....his dick must have felt bigger by doing this.

Brady Bill

The Brady Bill was implemented on February 28, 1994. This law established a national 5 business day waiting period on handgun purchases through licensed dealers. It also required local authorities to conduct background checks on handgun purchasers. The majority of Democrats voted for this bill and the majority of Republicans voted against it. Bill Clinton signed it into law. (18)(19)

Why would anyone vote against this bill.
What's wrong with waiting 5 freaking days to get a gun???? Unless you have something planned before 5 days I don't see the rush.......unless by chance your inlaw comes over.

Background checks.......I'm not going there.

society failed Seung-Hui Cho's it has nothing to do with the right of gun ownership. if laws were to be changed to make it so difficult for law abiding citizens to own hand guns then only people that would have them would be the criminals and law enforcement.

and yes by law he shouldn't have been able to purchase one. but we all know how sensitive the mental health issue is in the US. sure relying on someone to answer a question honestly is not the best way but is having a centralized database with info on all mental health patients any better? that's a whole different issue and problem

McVeigh killed with fertlizer.
9/11 hijackers used box cutters.

The gun did not make him kill people, it was merely his tool. It was also a tool that could have been used by one of the students .

May 2: An SUV sits outside the Ralston Middle School in Belmont.

BELMONT, Calif. ??? A sport utility vehicle jumped a curb and plowed into a group of California middle school students waiting for a bus, authorities said. Three teenagers were in intensive care Thursday.

About half a dozen children were hit, including several who were trapped under the SUV when it struck a tree outside Ralston Middle School on Wednesday, Police Lt. Dan DeSmidt said. Parents and staff used a jack and collective muscle to lift the SUV and rescue the trapped children, he said.

Fire Chief Doug Fry said 13 children and the SUV's driver were taken to hospitals. Seven went to trauma centers with problems ranging from broken bones to internal injuries, he said.

Later one person said "Nobody needs a vehicle that massive. It can only cause horrific damage with such momentum. It is a terrible public health hazard. If it saves just one life it will be worth it. Think of the children!"

Yah, it's like that.....:hmmm:

Its this, "if it saves one person" mentality that drives me insane.

Yes, instead we can all have small sports cars that can do 280MPH and get launched airborne when they jump curbs, so at least that way everyone will just get decapitated and no one will have to suffer....:thumb::wacko:

Hmmm what would that person be saying if it was a school bus that jumped the curb?

Who knows, people that make such statements about guns, cars, drugs, etc take the "don't confuse me with the facts" approach which they base on their emotions vs data, history, and logic.
