You are NOT an expert?

You know nothing annoys me more than ?internet? pros and LA Fitness gurus. Let?s face it; half of you don?t know shit about fitness, training, or diet. Including me? This is why I have coaches? and take note? I don?t coach a soul. Not even whatever lucky girl I am talking with? well I would consider her lucky, she probably would have a different take on that.

There is a big difference between Training and Working Out. Training someone is an active process of understanding their weaknesses, injuries, motivations, and helping that individual toward the attainment of a goal. Ever notice a trainer or coach whose clients have accomplished nothing and still have terrible physiques? Yeah those people aren?t trainers? Well in some cases they may be great trainers with terrible clients, but that bypasses the point of my writing.

Working Out, now this is a whole new category. No expertise needed. Anyone can fill this gap. I am not kidding, you can take damn near any competent lifter and they could devise a workout that will make you feel all sorts of sore? no promises it will do you a bit of good, but you will get a good ?workout.? These people will more than likely injure you too, hey not their fault that you have shoulder Impingement issues and you just performed burnout overhead presses until you felt a sharp pain? That being said know the difference between a Coach and someone who is just Working out with you.

When you really want to take your fitness goals to the next level you need a reliable coach. Ask yourself:
What has this coach accomplished?
What is his history and experience in the field?
What is the success of his clients and injury rate?
Have they taken the time to understand your personal aches and pangs? Do they understand rehabilitation principles and help you to actively prevent injury?

These are just some of the questions you should be asking, as opposed to? well he has nice abs and 13? inch biceps and oh?. Those skinny jeans, my God.
Happy lifting

Well said. Spoken like a well coached trainee. This industry is full of "trainers" who know nothing about the art and science of program development. Anyone, like you said, can give you a "great workout". Being crippling sore is not the mark of progress. That's the primary issue I have with volume based programming.
Only a true professional will develop a personalized, progressive program that addresses strengths and weaknesses and has you working toward long term goals by regularly reaching short term goals. Volume should be adjusted based on goals, results, recovery ability, etc. Not necessarily just programming volume based on what "so and so" does. Everyone is different.
That's why I love linear based strength programs with added volume to address injuries, weak points, hypertrophy, etc. I could go on and on. But it's nice to hear comments from someone who "gets it". I read so much crap on these forums from jackasses who've never worked with another body other then their own but they know what's best for everyone. "you have to do 20 sets of chest and destroy it once per week or it won't grow"... Sure you do genius!

This "coach" who does some "coaching" at my gym had this guy come in a couple days ago to go over some basic fundamentals of lifting. The guy admitted to us both he had never done much lifting. Exercise, yes but lifting in general, no. Anyways, the "coach" is taking him through a squat progression and works him up to his body weight on the bar. Right now everyone should be thinking, squatting your body weight? Really? On day one? This guy gets to the bottom and when he tries to stand up, bends at his waste, slams the weight into the cage and drops it on the floor. Luckily he wasn't hurt but I'm sure the guy was thinking what the fuck?! Very awkward moment to say the least. Any guy wants to listen to the coach and is not going to back down from a challenge but the "coach" should know better than to try and get him to lift that much on day one. I dont believe he got hurt but that's how people do get hurt and get turned off to lifting. My advice, go at your own pace. Know your limits. Its important to test your limits but good lord use some common sense. That being said I think I'm going to try and deadlift my car. Lmfao

Peace

To each his own... I have had trainers talked with other trainers some know a little bit some dont know shit. I have learned more from old school lifters, Sites like this, and you tube. I take everything with a grain of salt and research and thing I been told..
This coaches will tell you enough to keep you coming back for you money. Learn it all your self plenty of books websites and forums.. I admit 2008 I didnt know shit been in the gym and walked around lifted a few things but never right. Now I know how to lift correctly and I know about muscle structure.

its what happens when there's a cut and paste in some formats

The guy I was speaking about in the above story didn't come back today. Shit, I wouldn't have either.

Not only was I was top athlete...but I have 3 degrees in this field with other certs that allow me to see and hear bullshit

I will say some of the guys drop some jewels in here from time to time and you have those who just talk out of their assets...

Just because I don't come in the threads and dismantle falsehoods doesn't mean I don't read them.

Not talking about you specifically, but as a general example the same could be said in a reverse fashion...

being a top athlete and having multiple degrees or other certifications in the field does not make you a good trainer/coach or even bodybuilder for that matter (esp with what most of these certs are teaching people these days, good lord)...

training someone has many different facets that should be addressed...Ive learned to not judge until Ive thoroughly read or listened to what a person says, teaches, etc... even with multiple fancy letters with periods and commas after their name, doesnt mean they really know what they are doing...

I agree with you up to a certain point...

I have seen many text book coaches land jobs they have no fucking business getting at major universities... just because they was part of a system that was great....

Just like bodybuilding... it's mfs who hung out with Arnold, lee haney and Ronnie....does that qualify them to be experts

Hell No
