I was just wondering which played a bigger part in fat loss, diet or cardio? I know doing both would be benificial, but if you could only choose one, which one would make the most difference?

If I was forced to choose one

Diet. If you start eating healthier, you might feel more inclined to do both. If you do a lot of cardio and your diet is lousy nothing will change.

Not necessarily. I mean if you are going to do cardio for an hour then eat McDonald???s double quarter pounder with cheese that is one thing, but if you eat a decent diet and do cardio the weight is still going to come off. Not as fast as you would if you have a clean diet but it will still come of.

But eating healthy does make you want to jump on the treadmill that is why diet and exercise work hand in hand.

Its hard to say really, I would say they are both as important as each other. Losing weight is all about consuming less calories than your body uses each day. So it could be the difference between eating a bit more and doing more cardio, or eating less and not doing as much cardio to balance it out. However it is important that you eat the right foods and make sure your calories balance which is where the cardio helps.

CARDIO, CARDIO, CARDIO. You would have to keep upping it though. The more you do then the more you will have to eat for fuel. Run and swim each day. Do one in morning and one at night. This will take the fat off of anyone. You do have to stick with it though. Work up to where you can run about 10 miles on an 8:00 to 7:30 pace and to where you can swim 1.5 to 2 miles in an hour and I bet you will be very lean.

Motivation is the key. Try training for a tri.

Diet.

It's all about your calories. So you decide. You can lose 1 pound a week by burning 3500 calories more than you eat.

Is it easier for you to cut out 500 calories a day or to jog half an hour every day?

Just remember, if you choose to lose it by jogging and you end up eating more because of the increased activity, it doesn't really work.

Wow! There was some good advice here and some very poor advice.

Here is what you need to know.

1. Diet makes up 75% of your success.
2. Without a clean diet, you will not get very far in your cut and will probably lose muscle mass instead.
3. Cardio is the least important of the 3..the 3 being 1. Diet, 2. Lifting, 3. Cardio
4. Too much cardio in the anaerobic zone will make you catabolic

So given these facts, it's quite clear what the choice is.

Diet and then Cardio to help you get over those plateaus.

Good ole order of operations:

1) Genetics
2) Diet
3) Lifting
4) Cardio

Put supplements in there any place you want after number two.

As to the initial question....diet.

Supps would be least important IMO. They can even make things worse. For Example, did you know that over supplementation of vitamin C can lead to iron overload?

That's why learning the best balance of sups, workout, and diet for YOUR body is best. No one knows you better than yourself.

Didn't know that.... do you have source?

It is only if you have haemochromotosis or some other genetic/ hereditory disorder that doesn't allow your body to regulate iron absorption (the absorption of iron across the intestinal wall is highly regulated...) Vit C is something that increases iron absorption.... AND if you are unable to regulate your iron stores - then it CAN increase absorption and therefore increase iron overload in these people.

READ ME --> http://www.cdc.gov/ncbddd/hemochromatosis/

BUT - an overload of Vit C CAN lead to GI unsets (diarrhoea) and it can predispose you to kidney stones.

diet. ive done a cut to bodyfat in the 7's with lifting 4xwk, no cardio, to make sure I was right.

if you were doing cardio, and not diet, youre just battling yourself.
