Any body here got any good studies or scientific researches on the effect of proper sleep on Metabolism , fat loss , physical improvements...

my sleeping hours are messed up usually as I go to bed late most of the times and wake up late at morning or even at noon , would that have a big effect on my diet ... I noticed that my progress Is slowing down so much so I thought that maybe my sleeping hours Is the main reason.

thanx for your reply :)

adequate sleep is vital to optimizing hormone levels. no amount of daytime sleep can substitute for a good night's sleep. growth hormone status is especially dependent on sleep, because a major growth hormone surge occours during the first episode of slow-wave sleep, approximately 30-70minutes after sleep on set. Disturbed or interrupted sleep can cause growth hormone output to be reduced or aborted. therefore, not merely sleep, but sound sleep, is essential to maximizing growth hormone release.

I read them all but they are all about sleep deprivation , nothing about 'sleeping at night vs sleeping at the morning' I'm trying to google it
If you are a teenager then it is likely your sleep rhythm is shifted anyway (it is known that in the late teenage years your melatonin secretion 'shifts' so that you are, what can be termed, a 'night owl'....)... So it means you don't naturally FEEL like sleep until LATE in the evening and also that you don't wake up until mid-morning...

And this is completely natural and NOT going to be having an impact on weight...

Hmmm...
Emma Most of those studies suggest that people that don't get enough sleep gain their weight because a lack of sleep will generally mean:
1/ Increased caloric intake
2/ Decreased NEAT metabolism.

However, What if you took a perfectly active individual who got 8 hours of sleep a night but then reduced that to 4 hours a night while maintaining their NEAT activity as well as calorie level, what kind of effect would that have? Would their be an increase in metabolism?
I thought I read in some sort of study that when they induced sleep deprivation in rats, the rats actually LOST weight even after they started feeding the rats more calories. Eventually the rats all died though..
