My sister told me that one of her teachers said that it was bad to eat before you workout. Well is it bad? And if it is.....why?

This is way to general of a statement to be picked apart. Need more details.

don't eat right before a workout - like a big freaking meal. maybe a snack 30mins to an hour before.

I always try to eat like an hour before my workouts or I get incredibly hungry toward the end. I also sip a shake throughout the workout.

Don't have Thanksgiving dinner and hit some heavy deadlifts 15 minutes later, but eating something reasonable an hour or so before your workout should be fine.

I usually drink a shake about 30-40min. before I train.

Personally I like a fairly fast digesting protein like whey and some complex carbs for energy throughout like oats. Stay away from fats if you are eating within 1 hour of working out, or face your stomach's wrath - at least in my experience.

I don't like eating before my workout. When I was younger football instilled a lot of bad eating habits with me. It meant dodging breakfast for fear of throwing up a lung during practice, and then lunch was a for sure no-no with another brutal practice following not to long afterwards. I wouldn't eat at all until I got home and then devour anything I could before bed. Not a good idea especially when your mistaking hunger for thirst because your so dehydrated from losing 5+ lbs of water weight during a single practice, but yeah I try and eat something before, but it's hard for me with the thought of the oncoming torture secession.

As has been stated, 30-60 minutes prior to working out you should consume sort of protein/carb mix. P-funk drinks a shake, as does CP, I prefer a glass of milk and a protein bar. Whatever floats your boat..

I usually eat a 1/2 cup brown rice and a 6oz chicken breast at 4:30 and arrive at the gym by 5:30 ready to rock. I've tried with and without and I have more energy and can move more weight with the meal.

Big carb packed meal (sweet pots, rice noodles etc..) 2 hours before (first meal of the day) and I'm good to go at a high intensity.

Just to clarify, my pre-workout meal is a glass of 2% milk with half a scoop of whey and a bowl of oatmeal. The serving size of the oatmeal is only 1 cup dry right now, but sometimes I add in another half cup when I'm going for weight gain.
