Chest after triceps . sucked!!!!!

Ok i worked out triceps hard this morning. I went to do a short chest workout due to time. Figured out I would start a few pounds lighter on the dumbells than I usually do. Come to find out it should have been a FEW MORE pounds lighter. I got the press up about half way and then my tris gave out and down come the DB on to my chest. So I really didnt even get a good chest workout in. Never again will I do a workout that way!!!!!!!
 
Too bad you weren't using a barbell, because this is the dumbest thread I've ever read.
 
I can never train chest and tris together for the same reason though hah
Mind you I've never had a weight fall on me
 
A lot of people train chest and triceps together, I don't recommend it, but never the less it is done. However, chest first then tri's bro...day 1 stuff.
 
Yes, you can train chest and triceps together, but (unless your triceps are really lagging and are your prime focus) the triceps exercises should come after the large compound exercises that the chest takes.
 
Ever since day one it has been chest first then tris. but today we just focused on tris but felt guilty on not getting in a chest workout. and thought I would do a few sets.
 
I have to agree with Witchblade I purposely have moved into planned movements per day rather than muscle groups. I'm not a body builder so why train like one??? Instead I want to get the most out of each gym session and I have 15 or so excercises that are must do's, so I put them all together and plan my week that way. Its un-orthodox but hell it works for me.

When I did train body parts, I used the rule of thumb to always train the larger body part first.
 
I been doing bench and tri's. I could lift more if I split them up, but because bench hits tri's, I dont want to use another day on them.
 
If you always do horizontal pressing before vertical pressing you'll get a very unbalanced shoulder girdle.

Anyway, triceps play a major role in overhead pressing. Why fatigue them beforehand?

You wouldn't. You'd do stuff like benching and pressing before stuff like dips or extensions. Or so I've read on IM (and others places/books) countless times.

Obviously there are exceptions depending on a persons goals, but that's the general rule. :shrug:

Now you say you wouldn't necessarily bench before military pressing, because they are equal but still superior to dips.
I think I lost you.

And still dips don't necessarily go after bench presses. You should mix it up. They're both compound movements and they work the same muscle groups, albeit with a different emphasis.

To be honest my best gains have come from mixing up my sets against a lot of peoples advice. I still keep the isolation work for last, of course. Right now my main focus is my tries so if I want to do dips before bench big deal. I will just bench a little less and my chest is already at a good size.
 
who the fuck cares if you do dips before you bench? They are both compound exercises....it is not a big deal.

dips also put a lot of strain on the shoulder. I am not a fan and do not use them.

Presumably its also not a problem if you usually bench horizontally then do verticle presses?

nope. except for the fact that your vertical press may be hindered a little bit from expending energy on your horizontal press. But that goes for any lift that comes second or third or anywhere except first in your workout. That is why it is good to change it up from time to time.

I dont know why you would do that. Tycep is a secondary muscle to the chest. so what i am saying is your going to workout both your Trceps and your chest when you are doing chest stuff but not both of them when you are doing Tyceps. always start on bigger muscle groups and work your way down.
 
^^ Same thought - why burn out your secondaries before getting to the big muscle? I have a hard enough time gettign a pump on chest so I work the bejeezus out of my tris already, and THEN I kill them w/ 3-4 more exercises specifically. The biggest thing I don't want is a bar coming down on my face because my arms are already used up.
 
I always do 8 sets of wristcurls before I do barbell rows and pull ups. I want to make sure that I hit my brachioradialis hard....
