Just a thought here, something you might want to consider before plopping more $$$ on another gun, maybe you should look into reloading. It'll save you some money on ammo and also allow you to customize your ammo to your gun. Again, just a thought.

P.S. If you own a gun you need to be a member of SOME gun rights organization. I don't care which one, just join one. The bastards lost the Heller vs. D.C. case but they're still trying to take our guns.

WOW. i wouldnt go that far. shotguns and rifles are fun as well. I shot a taurus 1911 the other day that was easily more accurate than a glock right out of the box. i happen to think 1911's are sexier looking as well. the glock is a hideous gun. it has no redeemable aesthetic qualities at all. the glock is like a gold medalist woman in the shot put. yea, she just kicked everyones butt, but you cant take her home show her off to your friends like your dating a super model. it's ugly. hideous even. my buddy has a p220 sig saur and that gun is good looking. and i would put that up against a glock any day. just as reliable and something you can show off to your friends

yea I've been an NRA member for 4 years now im proud to say...the only problem I foresee right now is in jersey most of the ranges around here are members only and to be a member you have to pay a crazy amount of money and they demand an interview process, so even if I had the money its still up to the owners...I could just imagine what they might have me to as part of the initiation process!! haha

i could never limit myself to only one maker. i love so many. i like cobray there fun. like i said i dont like the look of the glock. that, and i like things that have a safety on them. if i had to pick a favorite maker most likely taurus. moderatly priced nice look great feel. all around a pleasure to shoot.

I don't find it funny, I just find it misplaced. Glock's are good basic reliable firepower, and fit their intended niche quite well, but there's nothing special about them, and they can't touch a good 1911* The Glock ergonomics suck, the sites suck, the trigger sucks. The reliability myth is just that, a myth*, nor did Glock invent the polymer pistol. HnK did, and the HnK USP is a FAR superior gun to any Glock. It's also twice the price. The SnW MnP and the XD series are as good, or better than Glocks, and both reviews and "real world" experience confirms that.

* = The other day on the range with the SWAT team I am currently working with, one Glock went FUBAR and another had problems out of 9 guys. They break just like any other gun...

* = thus why the top combat shooters, such as the FBI HRT, LA SWAT, Delta, etc, etc use it.

ive never had issues with a glocks reliability and i find them to be a very accurate pistol. i dont think they are any more reliable than other pistols out there and ive put plenty of rounds through other guns more accurate. but if i was working as a police officer i might consider it as my carry gun

If you shoot enough and shoot enough different guns, you will realize that most guns have their quirks and malfunctions. After all, they are mechanical pieces.

A Glock might feel good in one persons hands but not in anothers, the sights may be awful for one person and fit another person's style best. If I ever decided to get one i would have to spend some time at a range testing some out before I chose. It'd have to feel like a part of my hand and not like I were holding a tool or a piece of scrap metal....

THe glock hand grips are like holding a 2x4. Personaly I like SIG arms. I have a SIG .357/.40 and springfield XD 9mm. Both great guns!

For home defense get an AK47 you wont find nothing better on the market.

An AK is far less likely to jam. Snow wind, water, mud, sand that AK can be buried can go through hell and still fire? now can a glock do that?
plus can hand gun round do any where near the damage of a rifle round???

springfield is a good gun they made their mark with the .45 but if you want a gun thats great and comes with exchangable hand grips go with the smith and wesson mp. have ALOT of firearms and it is one of the best

You really have to consider the application of your firearm.

Home defense... Sure.... you could argue that an AK is the way to go. However... where do you live? If you live in a tightly grouped housing addition or an apartment complex, an AK is a very irresponcible choice. Those 7.62x39's will travel for quite a ways and drywall isn't goinna stop them. You could very well end up killing your neighbors with stray rounds. Not good. Now, if youve got acres of land around you and a considerable standoff between you and your attacker, a long-gun or an assault rifle is the way to go, no question about it.

Handguns are a great weapon for home defense, however, without proper training and practice, you can easily end up a statistical liability. I recomend anyone interested in a handgun should first go to your local gun-club and try several out. Find one you're comfortable and confidant with. Practice, practice, practice.

If it's just brute force you're looking for in home defense, buy a 12-guage.

On a side note, I've got a Para .45 hi-cap and it's sweet. It's a bit of a hoss but considering you're holding 16 rounds of double-stacked .45 that's to be expected.

I am leaning toward the Federal Hydra-shocks (147gr) or Speer Gold Dots (124gr) at the moment. I am still unsure if it will be difficult to obtain them.

This is great advice. I've ordered a handful of different high performance rounds, which should be arriving tomorrow. I plan to take them to the range this weekend and see which one works best in my USP.

I'm having a tough time deciding between ammunition grain. My USP is a 9mm and I'm on the fence with 115gr or 147gr for home defense. It seems 115gr is the way to go, but I've read about massive improvement in high performance 147gr rounds over the last few years. Additionally, I worry if 115gr will have good enough penetration for thick winter clothing (coats ontop of sweaters, etc. here in Iowa). Maybe I will rotate the ammunition in my magazines by season? 115gr when it is nice out, 147gr during the colder months?

Was it all ball ammo though? I am looking at getting jacketed hollow point rounds as my main home defense ammunition.

i shoot hollow points at at 1/2 inch 4x8 sheet of plywood 25yds away every weekend. you wont be disappointed
