how does smoking cigarettes affect your weight training, in all aspects?

makes cardio that much harder

Makes you more susceptible to things like heart attacks. Not a great way to start or end a session.

Also makes it harder to put on weight if thats what you're going for.

Honestly, the health risks of smoking are well publicized in pretty much every country, just because this information isn't presented with it's relevance to weight training, it should be obvious its going to be counteractive to pretty much any health and fitness goal.

When you sweat we can smell the cigarettes coming out from your pores.

i know smoking isnt good for any reason at all. i started early at 14, and its been hell trying to stop. i dont know how its affected my training at all, since i dont have any other to compare to, being i always been smoking. as for cardio, in the beginning running the track was hard, but after two weeks of consistency, i was able to manage 8 laps straight, where at the beginning i would walk one, run one for a total of four. as for weight gain, ive put on thirty pounds since weight lifting, i dont find myself restricted in anyway due to my smoking. is there any truth to smoking stunting growth? ive grown alot, but maybe possibly be bigger if hadnt been smoking. and any ex smokers see bigger gains after qutting?:)

I gained 20 pounds when I quit, I wasn't training at the time, I didn't like the way I was looking so it was back to the gym.

Cigarettes suppressed my appetite.

i think the real question isnt how smoking effects training

everyone know the negative effects of smoking on health

the question i think your trying to get an answer to is how NICOTINE effects your training

is there any studies as to how NICOTINE effects the body?
do nicotine patches have any of the same negative effects as smoking?

does nicotine effect how the muscles absorb nutrients?
does it negatively effect maximum work load?

of course SMOKING causes cancer, increase risk of heart disease, etc. but what if nicotine was ingested some other way, like through diet somehow?

i would be interested to learn how much of the negative effects of smoking comes from the SMOKE, rather than the nicotine.

for some reason i recall some supplement containing an herb that contain some minute amount of nicotine

as i recall it was animal m-stack, or animal stack 2

Nicotine has very powerful effects on arteries throughout the body. Nicotine is a stimulant, it raises blood pressure, and is a vasoconstrictor, making it harder for the heart to pump through the constricted arteries.

Peripheral circulation, arteries going to the extremities, are also highly susceptible to the vasoconstrictor effects of nicotine

nicotine and the increased cholinergic activity it causes have been shown to impede apoptosis, which is one of the methods by which the body destroys unwanted cells (programmed cell death). Since apoptosis helps to remove mutated or damaged cells that may eventually become cancerous, the inhibitory actions of nicotine may create a more favourable environment for cancer to develop

Nicotine is metabolized in the liver by cytochrome P450 enzymes (mostly CYP2A6, and also by CYP2B6).

it may be especially unwise to ingest nicotine in any form while on any AAS or Prohormone(my thoughts)

youre obviously going to adapt favourably to your training stimulus, smoking or not, and youre still ahead of the game, IMO sitting on the couch all day eating cheetos and drinking mountain dew is worse. Eat your veggies and smoke less. dont smoke out of bordem.

Smoking doesn't hinder weight training very much despite what all of the people here who have never smoked and trained will tell you. I smoked weed and tobacco for years while training, and at my best I was doing both.

However, smoking will destroy your cardiovascular stamina at sports. Running is a bitch.

Now remember, weight training is about diet and lifting weights, and not cardiovascular stamina. That is why so many power lifters are fat bastards, and why so many body builders can't run for shit. You can be strong and huge, but barely be able to run a mile without sucking wind.

As a smoker who dropped the habit 2 months ago, the best advice I can give you is to just plain drop it. Find something to motivate you and go with it.

My motivation was stepping onto a mat at an MMA gym, and being pummeled because I was simply too tired to fight after a couple minutes. Went home and threw away a carton, haven't looked back since.

I don't know how it impacts weight training, but I will tell you that quitting certainly improves the quality of life overall, not to mention more cash in the wallet.

Some jackass smelled like pipe tobacco today. I just finished a hard set and he made me want to puke. He put off a fume that cut thru sweat smells, menstruation smells, co2 saturation gag, etc. I'm going to find a way to make him pay. : (

P.S. I've got a FUCKING!! bag of COSTCO protein powder with his name on IT!!
