Can excess amounts of protien be stored as fat? I was always under the impression that any excess would be crapped out so I figured to much protien is better than not enough. Have I been wrong all this time?
Yep. But only protein that is above and beyond your requirements. This is why a lot of folks on low carb diets can't get their keto-stix to turn purple.

Also, am I using the right mind set by taking to much protien rather than not enough? I am in Iraq right now so I can't exactly measure out every carb and protien I eat since I don't make or buy the food.

As far as your protin intake is concerned, it depends on how lean you are....just take in ~1.5g per pound of LBM.
