So im 16, and i recently dropped 50 lbs from lifting weights/playing tons of basketball and eating at a calorie deficit. Now, im eating at a maintenance because i am not really concerned with getting enormous muscles nor do i care about how much i can put up in terms of weight.

Now, my goal is to get lean and "ripped". I was wondering if P90x is suitable for me and what are the pros and cons?

I have a gym membership so which one is better?

What are the pros and cons?

Is the nutrition effective?

I done the P90X program and I can tell you it worked great! I used it as I just got over an injury and could not go to the gym, and p90 was great! as the the nutrition I followed my own and just ate healthy and lean, used creatine and protein and I was happy with how I looked after.

If you have a gym member ship and are wanting to gain some muscle first I would suggest a H.I.T style program for 4 weeks or so, up your calories and protein and you'll be happy with what you gain, especially at your age. then when you have done that and want to lean out some try the p90.

good luck bro.

If you are real, 16 and lost 50 you are so far ahead of the curve that you own almost everyone here as far as knowing what works for you.

What you would get is less than you got but more of what you are after. How to be ready?

What my daughter and her soon future husband do is lift and eat hard and cycle p90x for the most part. We have talked about this a lot. She needs to start endurance training early with a calorie deficit while her man can still train on the heavy side before p. He needs he to build up the cals. She needs to build up the endurance on a deficit.

Keep the gym membership. don't think for one second that what you want to do now is any different than anything else you've wanted to do, you just want to change the ratios at which you do it. It is still a matter of calorie control and a proper workout program. You can do only one thing at a time, add muscle/fat or lose muscle/fat. Decide if you want to get bigger for a while while you build mostly muscle so you can cut fat later and show it, OR decide if you want to get smaller and lose some more fat and muscle so you can have more room to work with if you do decide to get bigger. Don't let this marketing stuff make you believe that you have some different agenda than 99% of every other person seeking fitness results. Your ignorance is being used against you with the clever ads and models. When you're ready to cut a proper diet approach is optimal, not a dvd or exercise program. Don't forget that just blind calorie cutting and working out is not optimal. You need a certain amount of macros and calories to help protect your muscle mass and metabolism when you do these goals. So which one do you want to do? You're not a beginner anymore. You'll probably learn all you need to know by going to this thread. http://www.ironmagazineforums.com/training/75252-p90x.html

Well the physique im aiming for is the clean and ripped look, as do most of guys my age. i mean, at 16, im not really attracted to strength gains or enormous muscles. This is probably embodied by Taylor Lautner's physique now.

Don't be fooled by those who tell you that lifting weights is going to make you suddenly look like some massive freak. If it were that easy there would be a lot more huge guys in the world.

Lifting weights and dieting is going to get you the look you want. You're not going to all of a sudden become overly bulky.

The most important thing to your goals is going to be your diet. What is your current weight, what is your goal weight, and what is your current diet?

My current weight is around 153 lbs and im 5'5. A month ago, i was as low as 142-144, but i just stopped dieting because i was unsure of my goals.

Now, im planning to get lean, but unsure of how to do it (p90x, or a workout routine/diet plan created by me).

I am still going to the gym, but right now, im pretty much eating whatever i want (including junk food), until i decide to either start p90x or just calorie restrict until i get low body fat.

You're still going to have to calorie restrict if you do p90x. Maybe you'll allow yourself a few more calories, but that's going to be offset by the fact that you'll be hungry as hell after doing those workouts.

You are ahead of so many people in that you already know how to diet and lose weight. Getting ripped isn't going to be much different from what you've done in the past. You may have to add some weight training 2-3 times per week but apart from that, it's all about calorie balance.

This link will help get you started with the diet: http://www.ironmagazineforums.com/new-members-begin-here/97077-read-me-first-homework-1-newbies.html

PS that "homework 1" was written by a chick (me) who squats more than you weigh. Heavy lifting didn't make ME huge, and it won't make YOU huge either. That part's diet. To get big, you have to lift heavy AND overeat. The lifting just tells the calories where to go.

If you don't eat more than you need, the lifting just hardens you.

Pinky swear!

you hit the nail on the head built , thats how its done. good post.:clapping:

I used P90X (sort of) and I loved it. I did the workouts Monday Wednesday Friday and ate heavily. I skipped the pushups on chest days and did bench afterwards. Worked great. I've also done INSANITY (followed it fully) and saw AWESOME cutting results

I'm sure they both work if you follow the nutrition plan. The point is, you could make up those workouts on your own and follow info on the internet and get similar, if not better results.

I would just never pay for it.

P90X is a harmless and beneficial fad. There is no reason to be discouraging if a younger person gets interested in it, IMHO.
