A Declaration of IndeHEMPness For The United States Of Amarijuana

?Make the most of the hemp seed and sow it everywhere.? ?George Washington
?Two of my favorite things are sitting on my front porch smoking a pipe of sweet hemp, and playing my Hohner harmonica.? ? Abraham Lincoln*
Our nation was birthed with these principles by these men. America centers around Freedom, Truth, and the ability to take Risks all with the goal of Happiness. Unfortunately, many Americans are not happy?in fact, they?re really pissed off. And a lot of them are medical marijuana patients that cannot safely access their medicine. Or even wear Hemp.
On our nation?s annual birthday, it?s worth reiterating: marijuana prohibition is the single most inexcusable policy and issue our country faces.
Marijuana is as American as Apple Pie. And Hemp is as American as apples. While both intrinsically tied products somehow remain federally illegal, it?s simply mind-blowing that a boon to society like Hemp remains in a gray state of limbo. And it?s clearly an issue our forefathers?who?ve extolled and used hemp to build this nation?would side on with the stoners.
Because, as you may or may not know, they sealed our nation?s philosophy and freedom by writing it down?on a piece of Hemp paper. A piece of paper that?and this is crazy?could land George, Thomas, and the gang in prison today.
Think about that for a second. The document that hosts the words that created this country sends people to jail every year. That. Is. Insane.
Our nation turns 237 tomorrow. For 161 years, hemp and cannabis were virtually legal?in the sense that they were definitely not illegal. But since the Marijuana Tax act of 1937, both hemp production and marijuana consumption have been unequivocally illegal.
That means America has been in a state of prohibition for 76 years. Even though the majority of Americans (to the tune of 52%) support legalization and 20 states (including D.C.) have some form of medical marijuana, prohibition remains very real. While the tipping point of 25 medical marijuana states looms, the country has a long road and many obstacles to overcome before legalization becomes a reality.
Just two weeks ago, the government shot the Farm Bill dead in its tracks, a bill that would?ve made industrial production of hemp federally legal. And it?s simply ludicrous when you consider hemp is a resource that can?t even get you high.
In fact, it?s an even more efficient and valuable resource than trees, which take years to grow opposed to the mere months it takes hemp to grow. Hemp has a wealth of resources that would take awhile to list, but, essentially, it?s biofuel and a product that would both create jobs and help our country immensely.
?FACT: NO TREE OR PLANT SPECIES ON EARTH HAS THE COMMERCIAL, ECONOMIC, AND ENVIRONMENTAL POTENTIAL OF HEMP. OVER 30,000 KNOWN PRODUCTS CAN BE PRODUCED FROM HEMP!? [Nemeton]
So yes, to reiterate?it?s fucking insane that its industrial production remains illegal. We can understand anti-pot proponents finding folly within legalizing marijuana (even though, as we continually mention, it?s a magical, cancer killing medicine) and pointing out its ?dangerous? side affects. Nut hemp? No. No way.
Hemp (really, like marijuana) can only help our society and this country get better, stronger, and richer?in both morals and bills.
While in a perfect world, both hemp and cannabis would be legalized, it?s simply preposterous and delusional to keep a substance like hemp?that can fuel cars and clothe countries?prohibited.
Marijuana?s detractors claim that the ?drug? *might* ?make you crazy.? Even those stricken with the worst case of Reefer Madness cannot deny Hemp?s only negative consequence is to make you itchy.
Our forefathers sealed this country?s fate on hemp for a reason. And that reason is simple: it?s a boon to society. It?s our job as Americans to keep fighting for what?s right and see the day when both hemp and marijuana have their rightful status as ?LEGAL.?
*There?s some doubt that Abe ever actually said this. But we like to think he did.
