Bank customer arrested after warning teller of armed man

GLASTONBURY, Conn. ? A man who became alarmed when he saw a man carrying a gun inside the TD Bank at 2461 Main St. last Thursday afternoon was himself charged with breach of peace because he shook up bank staff.
Robert Gursky, 50, of Cavan Lane, was in the bank transacting business when he saw a person with a handgun. The person he saw was legally carrying the firearm and had no ill intent, police said.
Gursky, however, was concerned and tried to convey what he saw to a bank teller.
"He was trying to relay to the teller someone had a gun," Glastonbury Agent Kevin Szydlo said. Gursky was trying to write a note to the teller, and also said "gun." Gursky then completed his transaction and left the bank. He also tore up the note he was writing and threw it away.
The teller and other bank staff became alarmed, activated their robbery protocol and called police, Szydlo said. Police figured out who had the gun and determined he possessed it legally. They also tracked down Gursky, interviewed him, then charged him with breach of peace.

The daughter of British former Prime Minister Tony Blair was held at gunpoint in a failed robbery attempt as she walked her dog with her boyfriend, according to police.
Two armed men, one holding a gun, demanded jewelry and cash from Kathryn Blair, 25, at around 8:30 p.m. local time (3:30 p.m. ET) on Monday near her home in London's posh Marylebone neighborhood.
?A firearm was seen but not used -- no shots were fired,? London?s Metropolitan Police said in a statement. ?None of the victims were injured and nothing was stolen.?
Kathryn Blair had just returned from her brother Euan?s weekend wedding to Suzanne Ashman.
?Kathryn was with a group of friends. No one was hurt and nothing was stolen,? a spokesman for the Blair family said.
Officials would not elaborate on how the robbery was foiled, but did say they thought it was linked to an attempted burglary in the same area about 30 minutes earlier.

that's some BS with all the crazy shit happening a guy was concerned and that's a crime. WTF

What he did IS a crime. You can't fucking write notes to a teller that have the word "gun" in the note. Especially when the person who has the gun has it in a holster on the side of his hip. The guy was retarded, stirred up panic, and that is called breach of peace. It is the same thing as yelling fire in a crowded theater because you see someone is carrying a cigarette lighter.

Fuck the guy! He was retarded, and deserves to serve a few days in jail just for being retarded. If need be, then a new law should be drafted up called "breach of common god damn sense".

Yes, that is an actual law: You cannot write notes to bank tellers with the word gun on it. LOL

Unless I am picking my youngest boy up from school, gun free zone unless you open carry in which case all hell will break loose because someone is open carrying, and when I go to work, no weapons or you get fired (even though I have a near razor sharp knife for work use), I carry concealed everywhere I go. I only carry concealed because of morons that panic when they see someone with a gun and automatically think they are up to no good. Anyone up to no good who has a gun is not carrying in a holster and has it concealed and more than likely is not out and about with his or her family.

I'd much rather open carry but the namby pamby sissies out there that need someone else to protect them from criminals will freak the fuck out far too much and call the police every time they see someone open carrying. What's sad is that Michigan is an open carry state, but it's rare because the idiots can't realize that someone with a gun in a holster isn't threatening anyone.

As much as I like this new law, my problem is too many judges, attorneys, and police officers would be breaking this law just in the discharge of how they do their everyday jobs. The system would collapse on itself within days.

cops in CT are fucking douchebags. one of my ex gf's is 5'2 and 100lbs and she got roughed up by some cops a couple of years ago.

i like concealed carry better because it gives you the element of surprise if shit does go down. if not the gunman just knows to shoot you first. guys that need to go around showing their guns off kinda make me think they'd walk around with their dick out of their fly if they thought it was impressive. :coffee:

There isn't one documented case of an open carrier being targeted first in a shooting. With the "element of surprise" the bad guy already has his weapon drawn and it takes time to draw your weapon, time you may not have.

It's easy to target someone smaller, especially when the cops have the upper hand in numbers.

Have you ever had to use your carry concealed gun for self defense?

No, but in NC a couple of years ago, a guy who was open crrying had his weapon taken from him from behind and was killed with it. Im not against OC, I do it sometimes, but I do see potential issues with it.
And yes, the .45acp does rule lol

Question.
Someone you don't know is walking down the sidewalk towards you holding an AR-15 and has on their hip a pistol in a holster.
How would you react?
Would you think no problem and assume that they are exercising their second amendment rights?
Would you run the other way and call police to investigate?

If you conceal carry, JIC would you pull your gun out and be ready to beat them on the draw in case they are a nut case that is looking to unload on the public ?

I would stop and ask him about his cool firearms. Never too busy to talk guns with someone.

How do you know that they are not a nut case?
You don't know them and have no idea as to their background, their mental stability or why they are carrying around weapons.
Read lately any news reports of crazy people shooting mass numbers of innocent people?

People may want to think this whole open carry thing over.
Mentally unstable people can obtain weapons and use them to commit mass murder.
It happens.
To assume that someone walking around carrying a weapon is just exercising their second amendment rights may make you a dead person.

Have a concealed carry?
By the time you pull that out they could have unloaded on you.

I would not hesitate to call the cops to have them checked out.
Better safe than sorry and see a nut case start unloading on you and everyone else in the vicinity.

socioeconomics has much to with peoples perception and fear of crime

the guy was an idiot yes we all agree with that, but if people get arrested for reporting suspicious activity people will stop calling police, not that I believe they stop crime. All around my neighborhood they put up those trailers that post messages that say lock your car doors and don't valuables inside and report suspicious activity.

Got a link for that story?

Wouldn't bother me at all.

He didn't call the police. The bank did.

Depends on what state I'm in. In my state if he's carrying an AR-15 on his back with no mag in it I wouldn't do anything.

That and people may now have a perception of fear based on reality from knowing that a 'mentally disturbed' nut case that was able to pass a background check and legally obtain weapons used those legal weapons to shoot to death 12 people at the Navy Yard.

Think about that one the next time that you see someone that you don't know walking towards you on the sidewalk exercising their second amendment rights by carrying a pistol in a holster on their hip.

Are they 'mentally disturbed' and about to go off?
Don't bet your life on guessing wrong.

So we outlaw open carry, this helps what? It obviously isn't going to stop a mass murderer from carrying. At best you save 20 seconds of response time by reporting the guy walking toward the building rather than waiting a few seconds until he starts shooting. It's unlikely that some guy is going to stroll around town for a bit with his AR on his back, grab a bagel then head on down to wherever he was going to murder people.

Bowden - scared shitless with misleading vividness.

The Navy Yard shooting supports the uselessness of banning open carry.

Don't outlaw open carry.
After all we all know that 'mentally disturbed' nut cases walking around on the streets that are able to pass a background check and legally obtain weapons never will use those legal weapons to shoot to death 12 people.

After all protecting the second amendment rights of the non mentally disturbed to be packing in the open is more important than public safety factors related to ticking time bomb 'mentally disturbed' people walking around that passed background checks carrying legal weapons and exercising their second amendment rights that then turn around and shoot to death 12 people with those legal weapons.

Everyone seeing a total stranger packing can know if they are crazy or not.
Isn't that right.
