I'd guess that the running caused it, maybe you should ease off putting load onto your shin. Maybe bike riding will substitute for cardio, as it's less impact that your shins have to go through. Hope it gets better.
There's just no way something like that could ever work lol. Maybe it'll look like it's working for a couple of seconds after it's taken off, but after that, same old fatty. Picture made me smile though x).
