You are getting good diet advice here, but I must say I am little concerned you called yourself an anorexic. I agree with Jill.

Therapy is also only helpful if you can find a decent therapist.

NJ, your plan looks good. I think Pfunk has the right idea, with adding things in gradually.

If, as you are just starting, you happen to find any of the meals are hard to finish just because of the increased food, try saving the rest in a lunch cooler, and eat it at what would be the next scheduled meal or snack time, even if you haven't worked up to eating that one "officially" yet. This is good practice for eating more times a day.

I wouldn't consider therapy unless this approach doesn't work. It seems like you are ready to make a change on your own, which is much more theraputic than any therapy session will ever be. If you do this on your own, then you will gain a new level of self control. This experience will be a very valuable one if you dedicate yourself and don't give up in the face of adversity. You are obviously going in the right direction. Otherwise, you wouldn't have posted here asking for guidance with your diet.

Therapy is just a suggestion:)
I understand that. Don't get me wrong, I just thought it would be better if she tried herself first.

NJ, Welcome to IM :) You are beautiful! You've got some great advice here, I'm glad!

For all the people who are against therapy, well, I don't know what to say. First of she called herself an anorexic and I don't think you understand how many issues there are behind an eating disorder. It's NOT about the eating.
If you do this on your own, then you will gain a new level of self control.
Pimp, I don't think you know what eating disorders are all about :) It's about CONTROL for the most part, controlling what you eat and being a perfectionist. The last thing she needs is more control. I changed my eating and stopped my bulimia over one day and never looked back, I did not really feel a new level of self control at all. The issues were still there even though the disordered behaviour wasn't. It's very complex and I wouldn't be where I am without therapy, that's for sure.
NJ, my PM box is open if you need to talk :) Good luck!! Let us know how it goes!

thank you everyone for helping me its much appreciated.. i dont know what to call myself or what qualifies someone as anorexic but the charcteristics of an anorexic i do have-constantly thinking ur fat(when really ur not) restricting, intentionally starving etc i feel like im not deep into the disorder yet like others i know and im glad to change now before its to late. i have thought of therapy but once again i feel like i can beat this on my own and i WILL beat this.:heartpump:love: coming here was my first step for help!

I'm happy to hear that you're so positive about it all :) You will beat it, I know it ;) Consider starting up a journal in the online journal section, it's great to stay on track and to provide motivation!
Good luck!! :)

Im with Jenny, great post;)

The truth here is that even when you stop the so called behaviors, the underlying issues need to be fixed. Trust me, even though you may not be 'deep' into the disorder, it sucks you in fast. I delt with an eating disorder for nearly 9 years, so I can relate. Its great that you have addressed the problem, because most people dont. Some people can recover without therapy, it just depends on the person. Diets generally arent recomended for people with ed.

I think it would be great if you started a journal, Jenny and I both have journals, and it has really helped me in this recovery process. Admitting problems, spilling my guts, and so on. Good luck with all, you can beat this, it is possible. :)

I understand this Jenny. I have known many a people with eating disorders. It seems to me like beating it on your own is the best way to go about it. I don't have firsthand experience, but nonetheless...

Hello! Sorry I am popping into this thread so late! I just wanted to say you have come to a great place where the people are really supportive and helpful, and a bunch of us here have overcome or are fighting to overcome eating disorders.. so it's like we have a little staff of them  Don't you worry about what other people consider to be anorexia or not. Personally, I think 500 is extremely low! I was experiencing a lot of bad side effects when I was eating about 900-1000.. I can see why you don't have any energy girl! But def increase SLOW.. so your body doesn't pack on 10lbs in 2 weeks like mine did from jumping to way high calories too fast! DEF don't take EC.. it really only makes things worse because it kinda makes you eat even less, and you are running on empty.. and your body will eventually just burn out. I took EC for a while because I felt like that was the only way I could get a decent work out.. but now I eat more... and I don't feel like I need anything. Sure I am not bouncing off the walls, but I am not doing so bad either. As for becoming toned.. I think, with the changes in your diet, and most importantly WEIGHT TRAINING for you, you will achieve the body you want in a short time. You already do look amazing.. I can honestly say I would be jealous if I saw you out at a club or something. BTW, I am from Jersey too! I live in central NJ, in Middlesex County.. If you wanna know more specifically where, PM me. Maybe we can hang out sometime!

What part of NYC did ya live in?

I Grew up in Cleveland OH....But I live on the Upper East side right now.

really cool? how long have you've been living in nyc?
Been living here for almost three years. I moved here after I graduated college in Boston. I first lived in Park Slope Brooklyn and then Moved to the Upper East side Jan. 1, 2004.

Since I know very little about the condition, I'll refrain from giving advice, but this is definitely a good place to get support and knowledge. If you apply what you learn here, you will succeed. :)

BTW... judging from your pics, you have a very nice, appeasing physique. Definitely nothing to be ashamed of.

There are things people will never understand or come to terms with if they do it on their own. Unless they read read read and apply it to themselves. If you've never been in therapy you don't know the difference it can make.

You know how hard it is for people to do it on their own? Most of the time, they need external supports and motivation.
