Sometimes when im lifting weights I tend to yawn. I don't know why I do but it just happens. Anyone else yawn during your workout?

I do, but it's because I lift at 5:30 in the morning and still waking up. :)

I do it too somtimes, I think it's cause we need more oxygen and that's a way for the body to regulate it :)

The common theory is that yawning is done in response to a percieved decrease in blood oxygen saturation levels. Working out uses alot of oxygen so if this theory is true, it makes sense that yawning during workouts may occur.

I would think it would happen more during lifting due to the short bursts of high energy demand followed by rest. During cardio it may occur in the first few minutes but after that I would doubt it would occur very often.

(I yawn too when I workout in the morning...like this morning at 5:30am!)

Only during cardio. When I worked dayshift I'd have to get up at 0400 to do my workout, with the first 30 mins for drinking massive caffeine doses. I am not a morning person.........................Ruch

well...4:00 is just too damn early...exercising that early should be illgal

j/k of course...i used to have to workout that early as well...and when i was personal training i had a client for a while at 3am....that sucked ass....but she paid well!

I imagine that biological (circadian) rhythyms may also play a role in oxygen utilization at different times of the day....another crazy ass hypothesis from my sleep deprived brain. (got the big 2 hours of sleep last night!)

The same thing happens to me between lifts. Big yawns. I'm not tired, but I agree that it probably has something to do with oxygen intake.

Never really noticed it before, but caught myself yawning between my last 2 sets yesterday.

There seems to be a high correlation between yawning and changing a condition, ie, from being alert to tired or vise versa. I read somewhere that olympic athletes are often seen yawning right before their competion. If this hold any truth, I could see how someone might yawn often while lifting weights from constantly getting prepared for the set and then relaxing after the completion of one.

I feel like I yawn the entire time I am working out! LOL, I have no idea why either, just randomly yawn the entire time I am at the gym.

I do, its not that uncommon.

Last I recall nobody knows why animals yawn, the supposed going theory is that the brain is crying for more oxygen  However, I hardly EVER bring in deep breaths during yawning so I dont know about that one.

People 'shiver' to warm up, is about all I can tell you.

I used to have this problem also, nearly every workout. I can think of two things that might have had a direct impact on fixing the problem for me.

Adequate hydration is one. I have been drinking at least 1.5 gallons water each day (coming largely from shakes). Last time I yawned a lot during a workout, I was also very dehydrated. You guys might want to try this and see if it helps. Many people think they may be drinking a lot of water, but in reality are not consistent about it. The other is as already mentioned, getting plenty of sleep! A mild preworkout stimulant might make a difference for some.

It can be a really annoying problem, lol!

Can't remember ever yawning during a workout, even at 5:30 in the morning. But there are often times when I seem to belch and flatulate a lot!

Depends on the music and atmoshere in the gym for me and course sleep the night before.Lets face it sometimes lifting can be somewhat routine, tedious and even boring especially cardio witout a Tele on. It might also be counting all the reps and sets. :)

I have had a few occasions at the gym that I do yawn; it???s usually the days I barely get any sleep or just have a bad night

yawing is caused when the body goes from a period of inactivity to activity or vice versa...

I yawn at the beginning but not after I get goin.

I yawn before cause it's 4 in the morning. :(

i used to yawn when i did longer rests, more volume. since i got this little iriver mp3 player thing, my workouts have gotten mo' intense, rest intervals are down, and yawning is all but gone..

after reading all these posts im going to be yawning for the next 3 hours..
