It is time to renew my life insurance. I was given a chart saying that the ideal weight for someone my size 6'1" 250 28% BF (working on that) should be 158 pounds! For fucks sake, I weighed that at birth! Just last week, while trying to find a watch band that fit me, the counter girl measured my wrist, it is 9.5" around. Insurance people give no allowances for bone structure or muscle development. Are these insurance people crazy?

It's a business dude. What sounds crazy to us is a moneymaker to them. Are they charging you more for being above that figure, or is it merely a suggestion"

(BTW, being 28% bodyfat does put you at risk for a lot of conditions - 20% is the most that I would consider not a serious health risk. McBain was like you once, but thankfully losing fat is easier than gaining muscle.

you would think in 2011 that places would have moved away from such an antiquated method of determining the health status but the industry is for profit in the US. so they will stack the deck in their favor.

you are a higher risk for them. unfortunatley they have to do that because it has been statistically shown overweight people are prone to more problems. not saying its right but thats how they make money

Yes, I know it is a business. It is people like us that have to pay for the out of shape slobs. It just sucks, that's all.

And THERE'S the problem. Even our own "people" are spreading these rediculous rumors. Weight doesn't have anything to do with health. Body composition is what matters. I'm that exact same height and weight as the OP, am I in the same shape as him? According to the insurance companies I am. But, how would they truely know? The answer is they don't, and they don't care either. All they look at is their stupid little BMI chart and let that moronic thing do all their thinking for the. It's asinine. :fire:

The real issue for me is the idea that a 6'1" male should weigh in at 158 pounds! That is beyond bean pole. When I was just out of the Army I was 27 years old, weighed in at 220 and can tell you there wasn't an ounce of fat on my frame. However, I still had a hard time with health and life insurance idiots because of what the scale said.

As far as being over weight goes, there is a guy here in Tucson who looks like a short fat wad. However, he is a Iron Man and Triathlon competitor that usually finishes in the top 10%. Plus he is 60 years old.

Insurance and any company that require health exams should look at each person individually. Some of those "ideal" weight types will turn out to be skinny fat and have more problems than some of us big guys and gals.

Wait until they find out you're on juice...

No, just kidding... but seriously, just wait.

Yup, most bodybuilders are considered obese by their standards. According to their charts, I'm supposed to be 180 lbs. Man, I haven't been 180 lbs. since I was in the 11th grade.

IronAddict, you are considered a fat slob by the charts my insurance company is using.

Yeah, I know! I've looked at some of them charts. I'm now about 40 lbs. over what they say I should weigh, but it's muscle!? And I've lost weight to be able to better swing a golf club, added flexability.

According to those charts i'm morbidly obese. I promise you, I'm noo fat slob. lol

weight doesnt have anything to do with health. are you kidding?? if your 25% bodyfat your chance of heart attack is over double. look up the stats bro
