You guys are high if you think I'm going to lean out and over to do an upright row with 350 lbs. I don't spot anyone anymore. Why do you think they use 2 spotters in competition? Fuck my back up spotting some meatloaf. Go grab a couple of 120lb dumbells like I do.

You would be surprised at the amount of weight you take off with just a little bit of help...so unless they are doing way more than they should even attempt...you shouldn't really have to do much of anything to spot someone...worst case I've ever been in spotting someone was when they lost a little balance and it almost got ugly..

I agree. You shouldn't have to do a whole lot when you're spotting. As long as the person is still pushing with all his might, you should have no problem helping him up. I went to a powerlifting competition a couple weeks ago (which was awesome, might I add) and there was one case where a guy was at the bottom of his squat, got stuck, and fell backwards with 600 or so pounds on the bar. It took about five or six guys to make sure it didn't get ugly - luckily there were enough people very close by, or the bar could easily have fractured a spotter's leg standing behind the lifter.
