hello eveyne i'm brand new to this forum and i have a question i hope u guys can help me with.I'm trying to increase my max on my bench and was wondering what kind of workout will be most beneficial.I have read that working my tri's and front/back delts is important.any other advice would be great for instance should i do chest and ddelts aon same day? how often should i max? How bout a 5x5? Bare w/ me i'm old(40) and i really need to improve my overall strength not just my bench but first things first.Thanx

Normally on big compounds you eat big, lift heavy, and strengthen the agonists, synergists, stabilizers, etc. to improve the poundages on those lifts.

But during a bench press, you identify that the triceps, anterior deltoids, and chest are the prime movers. Strengthening the core will lead to a stronger bench press too, simply because a strong core means a stronger everything.

Continue eating good foods, trying to add weight, using 4-6 reps per set, 3-5 sets per session, workout those other muscle groups and you'll start seeing significant gains.

just a question for you Riggo; why the bench press?

thanx for the info...........vader i picked the bench press because frankly its my favorite lift and i'm pretty heavy (255lbs) and my form on my squat and deadlift will need a lot of work but i plan on working them. Also a little side note i am a cop and got into it w/ a dude and he almost overpowered me so its a reaction to that that its time to get serious about strength.
