As the title says, does anyone have a link that shows a step by step on how to properly measure for BMI with both the calipers and the measuring tape. My wife and I are both going to do it together so we can measure eachother, which I understand is easier than trying to do it yourself.

I haven't opened the package yet, there may well be instructions with it. Any pointers would be helpful.

Ok if I were not a wise man I'd really consider a crash diet. I measured three times to check repeatability. 25% Body Fat according to this little fella.

It is the Fat Track II digital caliper.

Oh man spirits are so so low right now. I knew it was high but damn, if I'm doing this correctly that means at 243lb I have 182.25lb of lean body mass and 60.75lb of body fat.

Not that bad brother. I was 24% Body fat as of 12-24-06 .

I am 12.8% right now with my abs peaking through, all 6 of em!, I hav e a lil way to go for a 6er, but keep with it and you will make it!!!

I promise man.

Well that is comforting. I want to see my abs so bad its down right silly, but I know it isn't going to come easy. It seems like I'd have to start going down on the scale here sooner or later. I have been at 243lb for a month solid but appearance wise losing weight.

Assuming I continue to put on LBM the fat has to go down in order for me to start to look better and see more definition. So by proxy :dont: , I'd have to lose total mass eventually.

Here is what I do every week. I measure the following:

With calipers I only measure the iliac. Above the hip bone thing. I tries al the other measuring spots but it was just too confusing. I use the little card that came with the calipers to determine bodyfat.

With the tape I measure my waist and my neck.

I then weigh myself on the scale.

I then go to this website and type in all the measurements.
Body Fat Calculator

Here I enter the other measurements from the tape measure.

Then I average the 2 out. This is the number I use. It is by no means the most accurate thing in the world but I can consistantly get readings with this method so I can plot out the following weeks diet. I have lost 130 Lbs doing this so I can speak from experience. I started off the chart at 300 Lbs and and now around 12.8% or so at 170.

Don't drive yourself crazy with it. Just pinch it, read it a couple of times and move on.

Good luck.

WOW man congrats, 130lb is HUGE. I know what I look like at 173lb and 10%BF and it looks damn good. I'm hoping to get back there and then bulk up to 195-205lb and maintain there.

With these calipers, it had me take where the arm meets the chest, the front of the stomach, and the front part of my leg with pressure applied to that foot. I took the measurements three times and they repeated so I call it a good control. I'm a quality engineer by profession so I give a lot of creedence to repeatability.

I've only been at this ten weeks, I'd really like to hit some of my goals by summer so I can look good. Gotta bust my can.
