Hey guys, I've been trying to find my body fat percentage with a tape measure, but all the calculators I've found have been wildly inconsistent with each other.

One test said I have 13% BF (which I know isn't true) and another has said I have 27.8% (which I sure hope isn't true), and others have gotten me various results in between. A couple have told me around 15%, and another couple have told me around 25%.

Can anyone recommend a good calculator to use if all I have is a tape measure?

sales them, as it is necessary for their 12 week training session videos:nerd:

What do you currently weigh and how tall are you?

I went through the same thing yesterday. I have a bathroom scale that is supposed to give a bf percentage but it wont work either. I ordered this, but not sure how accurate it will be. Maybe at least I will be able to use it to measure the difference in percentages even if the overall is not that accurate. It was preety cheap too.

I'm currently around 176lbs I think and I'm 5'8". I say 'I think' because I don't have a scale at my house at the moment, so I just measure my weight at the gym after workouts.

It seemed that the tests that required more measurements (and not just my waist and neck etc.) would generally give me a lower BF%, so hopefully that means that I wasn't as fat as most tests were saying.

What do you think you'd have to weigh to see abs?

Your stats are almost the same as mine. and i think my bf is 24. One of these days I am going to stop eating the processed sugar that i crave and actually get mine into the teens. But for now its cardio workouts daily so it don't go to 28.

I'm not entirely sure, don't abs start to show themselves at around 12-13% bodyfat? I'm definitely not anywhere near that point, as almost all of my fat is around the belly/love handles area.

Going off of this set of pictures, I'd say that I look most like the 3rd picture down. I definitely have that awkwardly large belly thing going on.

Okay, you're 18% bodyfat and 176 lbs. Go with that. Assume you have 144 lbs lean mass. You'd probably see abs at 160 lbs. If you're leaner than 18% now, you'll see abs sooner.

There. That's as accurate as you need for now, okay?

To measure yourself, I am having good luck with this combination. Accu-Measure 3000 calipers (Amazon has them cheap!). And this online calculator Body Fat Calculator 6 formulas to calculate body fat percentage . I use the Jackson/Pollack 3 method.
