In my imagination.
I haven't posted that I have been back in the gym for a month just because I didn't want to jinks myself. However, I am at a cross road. I have been swimming my ass off, nearly 45 minutes 4 times per week. The problem is my legs can't keep up.

My legs always give out before my the rest of my body. My legs feel like feel incredible when I get out of the pool. It kinda makes me thing that swiming, in and of itself, might be as good of a leg workout as squating. Doing both will probabaly be over training.

Anybody have an opinion on this?

Just train the legs once a week with low volume if you are doing that much cardio.

Swimming does tend to cause less muscular damage because of the lacking eccentric motion during the various strokes. Also, you should try working on your stroke (I'm assuming freestyle?), because your upper body should be generating as much or more propulsion than your legs if your stroke is in order.

That all depends.... Sprints most of the power will be from the legs. Longer distance it will be upper body.

The kick is actually supposed to come mainly from your core.

whats your goals swimming 45 minutes 4 times per week? if you want to be a competitive swimmer, quadruple the time and swim 6 days a week. you after a good workout a few days a week? doing what your doing is fine..
you after overall fitness? if so, and you're saving your legs for the squat workout, swim with a pull boy.
this saves your legs and you'll be fresh for squats and leg training.
all the best

Yeah I can see how that makes sense. However, it also depends on the person. I think I'm much better at generating propulsion with my upper body. Although it is hard to say very objectively; especially during a sprint where thinking about technique becomes harder.

My goal is to not be an out of shape fat fuck. I am doing this for cardiovascular health, and thats it. I find swimming does less damage to my large bulky body than running or exercise machines, plus I like swimming.

By the way, I'm not swimming non stop for 45 minutes. I swim a few laps, rest, rinse and repeat. My legs give out after 2 laps, because I am still leaning how to swim correctly.
