Hello everyone,

I have a question regarding carbs.

I am a 25 years old, 5 feet 11 inches and I weigh about 195 pounds. I train 5 days per week (30 minutes cardio and 45 weight lifting). I work a computer job from 10 - 6pm and I train at 6:30 for about 1hr and 15 minutes.

My goal is just to maintain my size at 195. According to calorie calculators, I am suppose to eat 3128 Calories per day (382 g of carbs, 195 grams of protein, 91 grams of fat) to maintain my weight based on my training.

Due to my job, the best I can eat is 3 meals and 1 snack. (9:30am breakfast, 2:pm lunch, 5 pm snack and 8:45pm dinner after workout.

With me having to eat 382 grams of carbs, it comes up to 85 -120 grams of carbs per meal.

My question is, is this too much carbs per meal? Is this good for my blood sugar? I would love to hear your opinion.

Your bf% is kind of important here as someone at 5'11 195lbs 20% bf is a lot different than 5'11 195lbs at 8% bf

I believe my bodyfat is around 15%.

Chest = 42 inches

Biceps = 16 inches

Waist: 36.75 inches.

I just measured. It's actually less 35.75 inches. I don't have a belly sticking out or anything and my chest is the first thing noticed. I don't have the the body fat caliper so I just took a guess on the body fat percentage when I said 15%. I don't know the actual number. I definitely wouldn't mind going down on the waist, but the arms and chest size I want to keep. So whats your advice on that?

If you're trying to just maintain at your bf% (which sounds closer to 17-19% if you're under 6' with a 36.75" waist) I really wouldn't be concerned about carb counting. Just stay away from the junk. If you want to get leaner, that's a different story. Maintaining where you're currently at shouldn't even require thought.

Initially I had measured it wrong. When I did it around the naval, it was 35.75 inches. I wouldn't mind going down in waist size, but I really wanted to keep the size of my chest and arms. Thanks Bieber.

Subtract out the complex and low glycemic carbs out of that and see where you are at. 40 to 50 grams of carbs is said be enough to spike insulin.

I think the more important thing is to supply enough carb to fuel your workouts. I don't know that you need to shitload the carbs. Try a base of 50 g carb / meal - and then do your training and see how that goes. There are ways to get in robust carbs like quinoa or barley. 1/2 a cup will get you 40 g right now.

I'm not really sure what the big deal is about your job. I work 9-6 typically and I've been doing a "computer job" for 25 years. I still get in 5-6 meals, depending. You can eat later than your last meal if you want and get another meal in there.

I only eat complex carbs: oatmeal, whole wheat spaghetti, brown rice, fruits, vegetables. With 3 meals and 1 snack, I could be eating anywhere from 95 - 120 grams of carbs per meal. With those carbs, I usually have 195 grams of protein and some fat. I'm just trying to follow those carb calculators that tell me I need to eat 382 grams of carbs per day to maintain my size. Is that bad? How bad is it for insulin and blood sugar levels?
