k i like run 3 or 4 miles a day and after i lift reall hard is it good for u or am i overtraining?

Not really enough info but a 3 or 4 mile run after an intense leg workout is OT just my opinion.

I use to run 60 miles a week, bike 250 and swim 15000 Meters on top of resistance training 3 X a week (mostly upper body)

Not Overtraining because I was training for distances from Ironman: 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile ride, 26.2 mile run..to Ultraman (3 day stage race, Invitation only)

Day one 10 K swim, 90 mile ride, 4000 feet of climbing
Day two, 160 mile ride, 9000 feet of climbing
Day three 52.4 mile run

So it's kind of a matter of perspective  Depends on your goals???

cardio by itself everyday is good but not right after or right before you lift. im not trying to sound like an expert but i heard it from some(arnold schwarzenegger's new encyclopedia of modern bodybuilding) after you lift your body is drained of nutrients, followed by cardio your body is depleted and has no other choice but to turn to your own muscles as an energy source, in effect your body canabalizes your muscle for energy. so instead of getting bigger AND more cut youre just getting skinny, minimizing your gains. plus your aerobics wont be as good since youre tired. not a good idea even though i see a lot of guys doing it. if you want to do both in the same day then: lift, eat, rest for 2+hrs, then cardio.

-hope everyone agrees with me

Trying to cut fat and get big huh i'm not sure if that's possible in a reasonable amount of time.Think do I really need to loose fat(if so cut) or do I really need to get some muscle(if so bulk) I would pick one and plan from there.

losing fat through manipulation of calories and macronutrients is the best way to preserve LBM

Yes, and I've actually GAINED LBM while losing fat through manipulation of calories and macronutrients WITHOUT adding cardio to my schedule.

Wow that's amazing :D

Nope just amazed.Never met anyone who could basically cut and bulk at the same time if i was you i'd seriously think abut competing cause you must have some great genes :thumb:

Sure its possible to gain LBM and loose fat at the same time, especially if your body fat is around 20% or higher, as you get lower it gets harder and harder to do though.

Well if that can be defined as "adding LBM" and "Losing BF" at the same time, then I for one...and several here has done this! Not only here but at a previuos site I as was at as well, dozens more......plus hundreds if not thousands that I have advised..

We call this Hardening or Recompositin....intermediate results may not occur at the same rate as a pure bulk/cut, or even mini-cycles per se, but the final and long term results are very similar :D

How much LBM?I've personally never seen anyone including myself gain any noticeable LBM while cutting i've gained stength but not any muscle mass but that's the beauty of it everyone is different.Still think if you can get your muscles to grow while reducing calories you got some great genes. :D

Its mostly seen in beginners or those with a higher body fat levels.
Have you ever seen any of those Body For Life challenges? Almost all if not all the people in those gain LBM while loosing BF.

Point is that we don't reduce calories that much and in many cases increase calories. It's about macronutrient manipulation and insulin control. More than gr8 genes....:D

There is a major debate here in the archives explaining the math. :D

I always thought those people generally just added a little bit of muscle(more like toned them) and lost the fat covering their muscles.Anyways I just got done on a brief bulk and cut cycle gained a good 8 lbs LBM in 31/2 months and thought that was fanfuckintastic :) I've never been able to gain that kind of muscle while staying around 8% bodyfat think your probably right you can shed bf while gaining muscle but only if your bf is high. Thanks for the info :D

Macronutrient manipulation is were it is at. I have been able to put on muscle and lose bf at the same time simply by manipulating my ratios of protein/carbs/fat without lowering my daily caloric intake.

I can do it and my bf% is not high at all. I can do it and stay around 10%. I try to never go over 12%. Your diet has to be really clean and specific and like the man said insulin control is important.

How much muscle do you gain on average(lbs/month) on this diet?

This is a tough question for me to answer since this is the first time it has ever happened to me. I am cutting right now (it is a 12 week cut going from jan.1-mar.20). So I decided to try something different this time and instead of drop calories keep them relativly the same but just mess with droping carbs and replacing them with protein and fats. The outcome was that my weight stayed around the same as when I started, moving up or down within a lb. or 2 each week and the bf was coming off. My lifts were all going up and I was adding muscle. Now since I have 4 weeks left I am droping cals and adding some cardio to finish it off so things are messed up a bit. But after my cut end I will be starting a journal, around the beging of april. The journal will document my attempt at trying to perfect this theory because I hate doing all out bulks and adding tons of fat. So I will need more time to get back to you on this. Sorry for the long winded response.
