Before I started bodybuilding, I weighed 120 pounds. Now I weigh 154 pounds and have about 12% bodyfat. I've been taking bodybuilding seriously for about a year now. I have never done any cardio. I want to lose some fat off my body, but I don't want to stop bulking.

Is cardio necessary for optimal fat-loss?

What will happen if I take a break from bulking and cut for a week, then go back to bulking? Will I lose any muscle?

Thank you.

Cardio's pretty useless for fat loss.

Drop your calories a bit. Do a little cardio for your heart, but it won't make you ripped.

Not really. 20 minutes on an elliptical burns what, a hundred calories?

WOW.

Gonna get you RIPPED!

ROFLMFAO you really think that's EXACT?

Hahahahahahahaha!

That is just so adorable - really, 197 calories burned in 20 minutes on an elliptical trainer.

Exactly.

:roflmao:

Seriously. Even if you DO burn one hundred and ninety SEVEN calories, EXACTLY, in twenty minutes of cardio, what's that, about 22 GRAMS of fat? Do this three times a week and you'll burn off over two whole OUNCES of bodyfat.

2.4 ounces, to be exact. :nerd:

I burn more than 100 calories in 20 minutes of eliptical... I think it depends on your weight, your cardiovascular shape, and how easy it is for you, among other factors.

I don't necessarily disagree with you built, as diet is really the most important factor, but a 200 lb man will burn more than 100 calories doing 20 minutes of elliptical training with medium to heavy resistance. Naturally, the more fit you get, the less cals your gonna expend doing the same exercise.

and thats a bummer... I always thought thouse things were 150% accurate, down the very last .5 of a calorie! :( lol

Never thought of it that way your right

It's a terrible realization when it first dawns on you how few calories are burned doing cardio.

Then it becomes a tremendous comfort: "You mean, I don't HAVE to do tons of cardio to get lean?"

Sorry for busting your chops earlier, it just gave me a giggle - the "exact" part lol - a little cardio is good for your heart, and it does burn a few calories - just not very much. If you're doing cardio for your heart, that's great. If you want to lean out, it's easier to just eat a little less.

I love this site already and yes it's exact
Because the little chart on the machine said so? And its calibrated for things like your metabolism, your thyroid, and the difference between the anorexic rail to your left and the obese chain smoker on your right.....right?????

Wrong forum for talking shit bud. I think you'll find that out if you stick around. Now go ride an elliptical for an hour to calm down. :paddle:

Lets look at the math:

Cardio Training = 197kcal burned EXACTLY. (20 mins used up).

Dont eat that sandwich = 300kcal not taken in EXACTLY. (10 mins gained).

***

No cardio done, you save a bit of money on food bill, and have 10 mins extra in bed that morning. No problem.

Gaz, I like the way you think.

Okay, somebody's gonna tell us to get a room any minute now.

<evil grin>

So, um, whatcha wearing?

ok

WOW, cardio never liked it anyway and i learned a good lesson don't mention it again.

Cardio is of massive benefit for fat loss. The fact that the majority of people up their cardio when dieting must tell you it has a role.

I much prefer adding cardio and not having to go too low on the diet side. Work up to 45-60 mins of cardio 5-7 days a week.

You need to stop posting this shit, its wrong!!

If it works for you and you want to keep training that way, cool, thats your prerogative. But training for 60mins a day 7 days a week is fucking stupid - overtraining.com!! A new member may come through here, read your post, and start running themselves into the ground for no reason.

And if it WORKED, nobody here would be arguing with you. We'd all be ripped, just like all those fat people you see on treadmills in the gym, in spin class, out jogging - and especiall in toning class at the community centre - all those ripped-to-shreds soccer moms. Yep, just do cardio, cardio, cardio. Just like the fat aerobics instructors at the gym. Oh, wait...

Ditto :thumb:

Now to eat that sandwich before i do some cardio. ;)

Dude that is a horrible diet plan.

Everyone knows that you eat ice cream before cardio, then a hoagie afterward. Please read up before you post these things.

I do like cardio for losing fat, but not as a means to an end.

Cardio to me just represents more leeway. If I am doing 30-40 minutes running of on an eliptical 3-4 times a week, it gives me abit more wiggle room. By no means should it be relied on as a sole fat loss proprietor.
