I have a 13 year old and for Christmas we wanted to buy him a laptop/notebook. If anyone lives near a Fry's Electronics I found a decent deal. Yeah I know the CPU isn't the greatest but for a 13 year old to do their homework and go on the Internet it's decent, especially for the the price!

Can you find cheaper, probably, but given that I am a data center manager for Intel it will be a cold day in hell I buy AMD or ARM!

Anyway, here is the link to the sale going on: FRYS.com?|?ACER

Weird the link says Acer but it's a Gateway.

Now if you are up for spending $1200-1600 for an ultrabook/tablet, this is the way to go! Mine is on order! :p

Ultrabook

seem like a good buy for the price, Fry's always has good deals.

I know how you feel I built a new PC 2 years ago after milking my PIII 866 for a decade with a beta version of NT 5.0 and I switched to an AMD which I never thought I would. but I did it because of the integration between the CPU and GPU and the 3D rendering, it kicks ass!

Gateway merged with Acer a while back.

I have an Acer laptop with AMD and an acer netbook. Both have been practically bulletproof for 5+years now. Batteries are even still strong.

Wow I am so out of the loop! I had no idea Acer and Gateway merged!

I have never, nor will I, purchase anything but Intel and I've been in the industry for almost 20 years. The only CPU's I've seen hold through the the of time are Intel chips. I have .net production servers in my DC still running PIII's without fault.

Several companies I worked for before Intel had servers with AMD and I'm say almost 2/3's of them kicked it before a server that was equivalent but with an Intel chip.

For a 13 year old kid, not sure you can go wrong with that at all!! I am picking up the notebook on Tuesday and will be checking it out the next 2 months before we give it to him at Xmas. Gotta lock it down!!!!

As I said in my other post I still have prod systems running on piii's but I wouldn't switch to amd if you paid me :p
