Chest help?

I'm drunk and seriously lmao@this thread.

Yanks, my benching is piss-poor compared to my other lifts i know. Do i care? Not particularly, no. I progress, i grow.

My upper chest is better now than ever and i haven't touched an incline in about 9 months.

P.s. Although i've been hitting a gym for 3 years almost, i've only been BBing since last jannuary.

My spelling and grammar are particularly good considering i can barely make out the screen in front of my eyes...

Seriously chicken, why should I listen to you if you're just some drunk? I've seen go pro's pics and his credentials at the main page, so I'd rather listen to him.

It's my dad's birthday!

We had an indian food buffet at the restaurant. Let me inform you, chicken madras may sound appealing, but your lips will not appreciate you for a week!

The word "isolate" simply need to be replaced with the word "emphasize."

You can emphasize the medial deltoid with side laterals, but cannot "isolate" it...you can emphasize the clavicular pecs, but cannot "isolate" it...etc.

The difference being that the medial, anterior and posterior heads of the deltoid are responsible for somewhat different anatomical movements.

That's not true for the heads of the pectoralis major.

TCD you drunked wtf are you doing!

I think we should do a test to find out. You could have one group do incline presses and dips then have a different group doing flat bench and incline L-flys. Also we could have pics of progress posted in the "members pics" what do you guys think?

Pumpit - no reason to do any type of "Field Test". those who don't feel that incline presses will help them grow will never do them.

AM, hell from the look at your picture (if that IS really you) i would have to say that you are in desparate need of doing some serious incline work. damm, that is embarassing - no wonder why you held out so long with regards to giving up a picture.

TCD - you don't care that your bench is so piss poor? damm i feel bad for you and may actually let up a bit - NOT. man if there is one thing that you need to do is work on your chest even harder if is lagging behind. I for one know that my bi's are the hardest thing to grow, so what do i do i kill'em everytime i work them and listen to what other people have to say about different training techniques for them and if it works then i incorporate it into my workout.

that being said i would listen to what people have to say because you my friend need it in a bad way.

Matty...I was simply discussing the difference between the words isolate and emphasize, using delts as an example. We already know ad nauseum how you feel about chest function...like I have said...do what you wish...but I will preach/teach what I already know is right.

pro, again from looking at Matty pictures i would think he would be doing a lot more listening than preaching about what he thinks works and doesn't work.

No, cause it's always improving. Just cause the weight i'm pushing is low doesn't mean i'm not growing.

I never once said my chest is lagging behind.

What makes you say that? I'm progressing and growing.

ok, you say that you have only been BB for just a little over a year! where was your bench when you first started? i mean with your body weight and all and the way your other lifts have progressed i would assume your bench would improve much more than it has.

from what i see, yes your are progressing but you are also limiting yourself from truly benefiting in the chest department by having such a close minded view on what works and what doesn't work

I've been going to a gym for 3 years in total come July. My first year was spent dropping fat (and horrendously overtraining). I'd do 45 minutes cardio and 90 minutes of machine weights (lots of set per exercise) 4 days a week. The exact same routine each session. I started at about 215lbs of fat, basically. I was extremely weak. Suprisingly, although i added hardly any muscle, my strength rocketed. I also dropped a shit-load of fat and went down to about 175lbs.

I then found the net (and mm.com) and started reading up. The gym i had been using was really crappy so when a newer "meat-headz" gym opened up down the road from my house we joined pretty much straight away. The gym was tons better, but i was still training really poorly. I continued until Jannuary of last year when i got my shit together, including diet, and started making some real progress.

When i first started benching i think i managed 10k a side of an olympic bar with piss-poor form for about 4 haha. That's like 88lbs. I had only ever done peck deck flyes for chest in my other gym cause they didn;t have any kind of pressing machine for chest. It went up quite rapidly though - as did my incline bench. During this time between jannuary and July of that year i put on more bodyfat than i'd have liked so i started a "short"(or so i thought) cut in July. I seriously underestimated how long it would take and how fat i was. I cut for a total of 32 weeks. During this time my bench regressed at first, and then progression never picked up as fast as i'd like. I've only been bulking for the past 9-10 weeks or so and my progression is amazing, hence, i'm happy.

If you're interested, my PB for BB bench is 220 for 3 reps. (and remember i spent a long time using DB's)

Sorry for the life story man lol!

hell at least i have a better understanding of where you are coming from. glad you did get your sh*t together you were way overtraining before.

i can understand also what works for you and you alone. if you take a look at the topic of the thread Stalin was asking for chest help! That's all.

i mean besides flat bench, declines and dips what else do you do for your chest routine? i don't see any type of fly movement posted.

Yeah. I have done them in the past. They're good, but i like the volume i'm currently using. No need to add to something that works.

yeah but the basic idea is that it will make things work BETTER! isn't that what you are after.

i mean since January how many times have you switched up your training routine. if you tell me NONE, well then you are WRONG simply put. you have to constantly keep the muscles guessing.

just for my own input, i have seen your high end output but what does your total chest routine currently look like?

4 or 5 times since last jannuary i think. I'm not sure exactly.

You've seen my journal haven;t you? The chest routine i update every tuesday night is my current routine:

2 set flat bench
2 sets weighted dips
1-2 sets decline machine press.

Muscles can't guess.

didn't mean it literlally, damm you take everything just written out of text. so i guess muscles cannot speak either!

of course muscles cannot guess, but the longer you do your current routine without switching things around you muscles will adapt to your routine. hence slowing your growth.

now you say you ONLY do 2 sets of everything. well how many warm up sets do you actaully do and for how many reps. i have seen certain routines posted in the WBB that have as much as 4-5 warmup sets, yet your are doing almost 70% of your max by the 4-5 WARMUP set, which in my mind is a working set and NOT a warmup set. That is what i was trying to find out!

this is what i'm trying to get at, yes your are progressing but very, very slowly for someone who has been lifting for as long as you have! doesn't that make you question the phyilosophy behind your trusty routine?

Muscle Gelz Transdermals
IronMag Labs Prohormones
I'm not progressing slowly. Are we reading the same journal here?

i do 2-3 warm ups. 2 light ones, and then one heavy-ish set that has like 1-2 reps.

Just cause i keep doing the same thing doesn't mean my muscles will suddenly decide to stop growing. I've done some exercises for almost a year now and they're still progressing steadily.

yes, i gave you kudos in most if not all of your other lifts! this is the chest we are talking about NOTHING else and it is the area where you seem to need to most amount of help.

now are you moving away from BB into PL? i mean for your heavy sets you are only doing 1-2 reps.

no, they are not going to decide to stop growing but they are going to become accomstumed to your routine. from what i'm guessing you will probably reach that point in another 2-3 months and at that point in time will start wondering why these wonderful gains you have been seeing are suddenly non existent.

you have to keep an open mind! you cannot continue to have to concept of "heh it is working now, so it will always work". in due time you will know what i'm talking about.

I'm not concerned about the weight i bench as long as it progresses.

Dude, i'm not saying never switch things up, i just don't switch things up that often.

wait a minute - TCD has finally agreed sort of with me - hold the presses! Ha, Ha

with regards to the weight progressing, what are you going to do when it doesn't and you are stuck? are you giong to either switch things up or try something different? - waiting on the edge of my seat!
