I've been reading but It's not sticking...

If I'm still trying to lose love handles is Dextrose a good idea post w/o?

Right now my post w/o shake is 40g Optimum Whey (2 scoops) in 16 oz with 1 tsp flax. I usually eat a few spoonfulls of brown rice with it.

Should I just add a banana? Dextrose?

I'll go for it:) ...

banana=fructose....not dextrose.

this sounds pretty good. The benefit of adding dextrose is that it is going to give you an insulin spike. In the face of an insulin spike our bodies can not oxidixe fat so your post work out fat loss will be stopped for a couple of hours (something around 4hrs I believe). However, the insulin spike will shuttle the amino acids in your protein to your mucles qiucker as well as supressing cortisol release.

So which do you want? insulin spike or no insulin spike?

There are some people here that are going to tell you that insulin spiking post w/o is bad and other will tell you that it is the only way. All I am going to say is see what works for you. I personally don;t like to spike my insulin levels post workout (cutting or bulking). I have 2 scoops of whey with 1/2c oatmeal and then I eat a regular balanced meal 1-1.5hrs after that. This has really worked well for me. Others benefit greatly from the insulin spike. So try both and see which one your body responds better to. Everyone is different:thumb:

Sources of? Flax post w/o? Good or bad?

While im not as experienced with body chemistry as most of you, i've tried to read up on the post w/o insulin spike debate, and come to the conclusion its not worth it.

I just time my w/o's so i have a good high protein meal with some fat about 30 mins before i hit the gym. Then about 60-90 mins after i get back, i'll have a 40g shake with some fat (and usually several strawberries).

Of course, one of these days im gonna do a cycle where i spike my insulin, just to see if there's really that big of a difference. :D

Oh come on big boy....You'd do anything for a protein shake and an insulin spike! (trying to keep things on track here):funny: :funny:

Dextrose = good idea
Fructose = bad idea

I thought funk said that dextrose isn't that good..? so how should i make my protein shake because i don't have access to real food carbs right after working out.. is there some powder that gives me carbs but also helps me continue my fat burning as funk mentioned above?

There is nothing wrong with dextrose post-workout. Just don't consume more calories than you need, and you won't store any fat. For burning fat, stick with slow burning (low GI) carbs at all other meals.

The most optimal PWO shake should contain a 50/50 mix of a simple carb (Dextrose is best) and a more complex carb (Maltodextrin is best) Whey and Water.
You want to stay as far away from Fructiose PWO as this will replenish Liver Glycogen levels but not muscle glycogen. You also want to make this a shake in water as it is faster digesting than whole food (a whole food meal will take rouighly 2hours to hit your blood stream and by this point you have been Catabollic for far to long and any gains from your workout are unlikely)

I have 2 scoops of why and 1 cup of oats....is 1c too much?

nah...60 grams of carbs is a little on the low side, especially if you are 200 lbs +

wait a second did you just say a little too low? 1cup of oats is alot! you mean i have to eat 2 cups of oats? lol stuff myself up
