While do not condone what they do, I also do not judge them and call them crazy because it is pointless for me to do so. The most I can, and should say, is that it is not something I consider honorable. So I would not do it.
Ok. I will try my best to explain. The Samurai felt that death by their own doing was honorable as opposed to death by something they had no control over, such as a the indignities of old age. Or sometimes to pay the ultimate penance for a percieved wrong. Is it right? I cant answer that for anyone but me. And for me, it is right.
See? The words explain, but they are cold because they cannot possibly contain the spirit of the belief. You have to see life - and death - as I see it to fully understand with your heart, not just your mind. For me, it is right.
If you are a weak and unproud old man, then I would venture a yes. If your body suffers things that render you unproud and rob you of your dignity, then it is up to that individual to see for themselves whether or not seppuku is merited. But many a samurai has died a dignified death from old age. As with everything, there are inumerous variables.myCATpowerlifts said:I understand exactly what you are saying...I am fascinated with everything to do with your culture/religion/background/etc.
You are saying that it is better to control one's destiny, rather to take it into their own hands
than die as a weak and unproud old man
I will do what is most honorable when the time comes. There is no other way to answer that.Which begs the question, what will you do when the time comes???
