America! Fuck yeah!
Is there any reason I shouldn't drink Diet Pepsi on a contest cut? I can't think of any, but with contest dieting being still fairly new to me--dieting in itself not though--I figure I should ask. I find my clients who I run diets for seem to do well having Diet cola's in their ranks (makes them feel more "normal" I suppose) but obviously contest dieting is different.

Do you like the taste of it? Well I guess you do since you created a thread about it but why?

excessive amounts may lead to extra sodium intake and the stuff dehydrates you which is counterproductive to anyone trying to make gains, but in general it can and is used successfully by many people all the way through a cut even.

To be honest I drink it because the carbonation makes me feel fuller, and it doesn't taste as bad as carbonated water. I could do those energy drinks, but that's more caffeine than Diet Pepsi.

This is the dumbest statement I've ever read :thumb:

In moderation it's probably okay. Just that nasty little aspartame issue. If you don't have an issue with that, then just watch the caffeine and increase your water intake.

Someone offered me a free can of some new type of diet pepsi. 0 calories and no sugar so of course there was an artificial sweetner warning.. some long word begining with phen... so I avoided it. The flavor was strawberries and cream or something though it looked pretty interesting since I never drink any kind of soda

At 30mg a can I hardly doubt he will get too much extra sodium ;)

Ok, there are only 3 reasons why you may want to consider staying away from it. I'll tell you those reasons and let you make up your mind.

1. Artificial Sweetner Aspartame - there is some speculation that artificial sweeteners may cause an unnecessary insulin spike.
2. Artificial Sweetners can make you crave sugar
3. Gas/bloating

Now that being said, if you have a problem with Aspartame in general and still want to drink some soda, try Diet Hansens or Diet Rite - It's made with splenda.

or Diet Crush.... Nothing like Diet Grape pop or Cream Soda.

Thanks Jodi and Iain for the tips! I'm a big Splenda fan, so I'll give some of those shots a go. I know most of the enery drinks (such as Wired) are made with Sucralose, but I'm taking ThermalRage and Clen, so I'm trying to keep the stimulants from any higher doses than I'm already getting :)

The bloating I think is what makes me feel full, which is why I'm drinking this stuff in the first place! LOL. I HATE being hungry. Reminds me of when I was younger and we didn't have enough money for food; I just get all depressed feeling like that so the dieting is real hard for me.

Fair enough, but I know people who drink insane amounts. like 12+ cans on a weekend.

oh an i agree with the diet rite suggestion. it is my fav by far. the raspberry and tangerine are the best IMO. and 0 sodium ;)

If you wanna drink soda drink regular, diet soda is worse cuz they use a chemical worse than sugar to make it sweet.

That's been posted almost a month back.

Do you abide by all these rediculous rules that you list. Some how I think not. A diet soda now and then is fine.

You really go over the top with some things.

So aspartame is supposed to be more harmful to a contest-dieting bodybuilder than 30-40g of sugar and 140 calories? I think not.

Do the research, diet soda is worse than regular soda.

Not true. There has been "conclusive" evidence that aspartame is harmful, and there has been "conclusive" evidence that it's not. Strange how that research goes both ways, huh? Whereas with regular colas, it's a blanket fact that it's empty calories and high amounts of sugar.

Quick fact: Aspartine was originally banned.

I will let you all argue this one out. However, I agree with Iain.

Now another alternative is a soda called ZCola. it is made with Stevia. If I could just find that somewhere :( http://www.z-cola.com/

Care to explain what "Aspartine" is? I am not sure I want to take advice from someone who argues over something he cannot even seem to refer to properly.

Aspartame. Pardon me.

Think this, everyone knows that sugar is bad. Why? Because it's highly processed. Things like Aspartame are even more processed and put in drinks to have that "zero carolie" maketing. Which is worse?

Gotta be honest. I'm going to take the Aspartame over the empty calories and 35g of sugar. :suicide:

If you are following a fairly healthy lifestyle, then colas (even diet colas) are a once in a while thing. Aspartame once in a while won't hurt anything unless you have PKU. Bleached white refined sugar in soft drinks doesn't help anything (other than massively flooding your insulin) and takes away from quality carbs you could have had with that cola... like sweet potato, rice, veggies, etc...

I think that's the point.
