Just wondering what people are taking as Dietary fiber supplement.....

I have added Psyllium husks to my diet....I mix it with my bed time whey which I take with milk, really thickens the drink. Morning with break fast.

It also makes me feel full when taken at bed time with whey & milk.....

Is it habit forming?

What are the real practical benefits of adding fiber to diet?

IMO there is no need to take a fiber supplement.
I personally do not think it is an adequate substitute for the fiber you can get from real food.
I buy high fiber tortillas (12g each) and I find a way to work one into two meals per day. That, plus the fiber from veggies and whatever else I eat usually gets me at least 30g each day.
I find this method to work much better than fiber supplements.

I just eat food.

:)

The reason for starting Psyllium husks is that I have trouble in morning......even if I eat lot of veggies I get the problem. I am currently using fitday for diet analysis....by the end of week i will get nice averaged data.....lets see what % of fiber turns out.

mmmm

:hmmm:.

if that is ur problem psyllium works so good

Yes thats why i take it, don't know why but I am always constipated

I usually do not have this problem, but when I do, I find that drinking more water fixes the problem for me.

I have tried that but does not improve my condition.

How many times a week do you move your bowels?

Post up your diet including average fluid intake/day.

Not all carbs are created equal. Rice tends to constipate many people, even brown rice which should have lots of fiber etc. Bran, dates/prunes, and lots of fluid (make sure, everyone thinks they drink lots of water until they start tracking it...you should be getting 2-3L/day minimum IMO) will have you moving your bowels quickly. As well walking after meals helps a lot, try going for a 10-15 min walk after dinner or breakfast even if you have the time.

Magnesium citrate 600mg at bedtime.

I am already on ZMA & it does help me sleep.

I have 10 tablespoons of oats per day, for my fiber.

Drink warm water - first thing in the morning might help.

If you are constipated, have oatmeal mixed with some flaxseed, and drink a strong cup of coffee right after that should get you going to the bathroom
