How is it where you live?
Michigan has a Huge fatty population, I think we may be ranked #1.
I went to a County Fair last night. The Ionia Free Fair in Ionia Michigan. Incredible just astounding and a bit depressive. For those of you who don't live in the upper midwest of the United States let me be the first to inform you...300 pounds is not a HUGE FATTY now....Its closer to 400-500 pound range.
Its easy to poke fun at the Mullets the facial tattoos, the other weirdness, but when you notice that at least 75% of the people around you , at a thing like the county fair, are not just fat, but Obese, its sobering, and provides not just a huge amount of motivation for myself, but also to keep my kids solid in a "fit lifestyle"
Is it just Michigan, or do you have it bad where you live.

It's funny that you should mention this. I've had a thought similar to this running around in my head.

First off, understand that if I tried to pose down you would be less likely to find it on ESPN and more likely to find it on Comedy Central. I've only been bodybuilding for about two months.

Having said that, I had quite a few ladies give me "looks" over the last month or so. I've even had a great looking lady come over and introduce herself. What the heck? I don't think I'm in that great a shape. Then I started to look around...

I can believe the statistic that around 55% of the nation is overweight. I think part of it is the mentality of the general populace. You should see the negative reactions when I suggest that to people that they should workout. You'd think that I'd just suggest animal sacrifice. Then there are those that say, "yes, yes" but you can see in their eyes that they have no intention of working out.

Overall, it's a bit depressing.

Well it is not just Michigan. Every sunday throughout the summer we have an outdoor concert in my area and I have noticed year after year that the percentage of fat people in the crowd is growing. Like you said there is your 300 lb fatties and now you got your 400-500 lb fatties. It doesn't bother me too much, but when I see a child that is morbidly obese it really makes me sad.

Not depressing.....good for us, look at it in a good light "come on guys, eat those simple sugars" hahahahah

I grew up in Cleveland and there are a lot of out of shape people there (upper midwest like you said). I live in NYC now. I just read some little article that said that NYC has the leanest people of any city in the country because everyone walks so much. If that is true it is pretty sad because I look around and see a lot of overweight people so it must be really bad in other cities.

Actually, my area doesn't seem too bad. I was just at a concert on Pennsylvania Avenue in DC last night. Now that I think about it, I can't recall seeing any really fat people. Some were overweight, but not obese. Most people were pretty lean and/or skinny. Of course, the crowd was younger than that of a fair and my eyes were mostly drawn to attractive women, but it still counts for something.

Im in Jersey and we have our share of BIG people. If you don't pay attention to it you could get by in thinking "o there are some fat people" but if you open your eyes a little you notice alot of obese people in my area. It doesn't help I'm a fireman so all I ever see are some BIG guys. Beer and fast food is a staple for em.

Just for fun, here's the National Institutes of Heath (a USA government organization): http://www.niddk.nih.gov/health/nutrit/pubs/statobes.htm

I thought that the over-weight level was about 55%, it's actually more like 65%.

I did a search on Google and so many of the return were about how this figure is "wrong" and that we shouldn't worry so much. Denial, it's more than just a river in Egypt. I don't care what the statistics say, I can see the "empirical studies" all around me.

My favorite result from Google was a link pointing to http://www.bigandbeatiful.org/. The site seems to be down though. It must have gone out for a bite to eat...

Don't let my post fool you....There is no way I could/would wear a man thong to the beach. I am far from an Abercrombie model, but you are right about not needing to be Frank Zane look-a- like to be a fit American. Get you ass in to 32/34 size trousers, and you too can look like a fitness model. Thats just flat out sad.
I was out in Montana last year and I was shocked to see the people compared to here in Michigan. So I was wondering about where "you" live

This site breaks down the costs of being fat ( how they came up with it I have no idea)
But just think for a moment how much of a drain on our economy the fat epidemic costs. After all people consume 2-3 X's the number of calories....daily, and that money ends up either....down the drain ( literally, or on the ass)
Its not just food....cloth for larger clothing, fuel for hauling fatter ass's, medical costs. Its a huge industry I wonder what portion of the GDP is claimed directly or indirectly by obesity?

this isn't even your damn thread!!!!

Ban him!
;)

and out here we have skinny young people, and fat old people. Although i see kids more and more that are chubby

Where I live almost everyone is damn fat or super-skinny. Hence, I'm looked up to for being in shape when in reality I'm nothing special.

Gotta' love living in a small town.

I am from a small town also...people are either super fat or too skinny. Got to love those small town fatties, round here they (most of them) where clothes that are too small and the skinny folk are so skinny that their elbows are the biggest part of their arms.

You don't have to be in very good shape here to be considered buff.

I hate to judge people but some parents should be slapped around for having children that are so young and sooooo fat.
