you are abducting your shoulder to press the weight overhead, are you not?

can you press more weight overhead or do a gay ass lateral raise?

I rest my case.

It's the commentary that keeps bringing me back to IM.

Good lord, P-funk has gone from being a doctor to a lawyer.

"Your honor, the only way you could be any more gay is if your robes were pink.

Oh, and I object."

I personally like to mix up all of those movements, but as of lately I have only been implementing shoulder pressing and lateral raises into my routine.

I think they do have their place, and I love working the shoulders. Upright rows have surfaced shoulder joint issues in many people, so I wouldn't exactly recommend using it in your routine- cycle it maybe every 2 weeks or so.

It really does depend on your routine though. If you follow a push/pull/legs split, the shoulder press coupled with the bench press is a good amount of work. However, if you utilize something that separates chest from shoulders (M-chest, TH-shoulders, or something of the like), then I would use more isolation exercises such as laterals, raises, and cycle in the upright rows.

As for lying laterals, I don't personally like them. Similiar to incline curls, the focal point is shifted higher in the movement, maybe at a 25 degree angle as opposed to the 45 degree focal point of a lateral raise. Maybe once a few weeks AFTER sets of lateral raises might be good mixup...

upright rows. even push press :)

I'm a big fan of the Arnold press, nice ROM.

Well yea because of the anterior deltoids which are the strongest of the three deltoid parts. But if u say so.

-seated side laterals (and variations)
-shoulder width grip upright rows

damn i was thinking about doing that. I was wondering is it ok to to do it lying on an incline bench with ur front on the bench so the anterior delts would be worked less?

You could try that, but I find the standing version works great. The key is a shoulder width, or slightly wider grip, and to get those elbows out wide. Also, only bring the bar to about mid-chest level to keep from too heavily recruiting the traps.

These are especially effective after pre-exhausting with side laterals.

1-5 rep seated extremly isolated laterals

Alright because im looking for the best lateral deltoid exercise which barely works the front delts so i can do it with bench presses. Since the bench press is mainly for upperbody strength im gonna do them in low reps and im gonna do a lateral delt exercise in higher reps for muscle. Question is what lateral exercise.

wow r u seriously still on that? i was saying to do low reps for the exercises that need to be strong for a purpose u moron, not every damn muscle. The lateral delts dont necessarilly have to be strong just look good so they should be done with high reps. Now lay off it its over.

BB bench 4x5
DB incline bench 4x10
Military press 4x6
Cable laterals 3x10
Dips 4x6

done.

Did nearly that exact split today for my push routine. Cut out the DB incline bench and that was basically it... shoulders feel real good after that workout, and that's coming from a guy who has separated chest and shoulder days for around 3 years now..

Overhead pressing for me too. I haven't done a lateral raise in ages and my delts are pretty decent.

Out of that list, side lat raises. Over all id have to say OH press aswell.

I was always a major shoulder presser..regularly doing 130s on dumbells and 275 for reps with a barbell, but my lateral delts always lagged.

It was only after I started to prioritize laterals and wg upright rows that I have developed that "melon" look on the sides...and that is a genetically weak area for me, so it took ALOT of intense work.

Pressing is still done, but not nearly as heavy or regularly, and my shoulders have lost zero size.

(But don't get me wrong, nothing is more fun than heavy pressing!)

I think snatches and cleans work the best. If one wanted to do over head press it would be similar to.

I actually used to like upright rows, but they cause shoulder impingment issues for me. It's been about 9 months since I subluxed my shoulder, and it is the only movement which still gives me problems. However, I do assign them to some of my clients who don't have a history of shoulder problems.
