For mature discussion, how much is it costing everyone to bury the Pope?

I understand his body will be place in THREE coffins, one inside another inside another. The first coffin is said to be of all mahogany, the second and the third I do not remember and then gold over it all?

And then the millions that are seeing him for the last time...

And the cost of transporting the President of the USA and everyone going along including the Secret Service, the cost of protecting everyone for this funeral... the logistics?

When Christ was crucified we are told a handful went to His grave and that it was the religious zealots and the politicans that wanted Him dead in the first place. And murdered him...

Not really wanting to be being disrespectful here on this subject but what the HELL? How about ALL those CHILDREN throughout the world who are STARVING for lack of the very basics? That the church encourages be born in the first place? And this earth can not "support"... How about all those "castles" that are built for praying, etc. and the amount it costs to build them. And maintain them. ... And all the "bomp and circumstance"? The "glidder"?

Christ we are told only had the robe on His back. Nothing more. And was a poor Man.

I think "religion" is out of control and completely missing .....

I believe in a Higher Power, a Great Spirit, "God" but personally this is just one of the reasons I have MYSELF absolutely no use for "religion" which IS MAN MADE. By the actions of "organized religion" I have come to this conclusion - there is a HUGE VOID between God and "religion" and that "religion" is nothing more than glorified politics and a money maker and a form of having and wanting control over people and their minds and lives. But I must remember PEOPLE PUT THEMSELVES in that situation many times because of their fears of the unknown and anything that "sounds good" or "everyone else is doing it"....

To me God - or Whoever you perceive Him to be - will KNOW what IS in the hearts of every Man, whether you are truly good or not and whether you have lived your life for the benefit of others as well as yourself. How you treat others, etc.... WHAT "religion" you "belong to" or "not" makes no difference - GOD HIMSELF KNOWS you and who you really are.

I feel real sorry for the children WHO ARE IN NEED in the world and see all the money that can be gathered for "one celebration" while the children starve. I wonder what God would say about that?

Ahhh, leave it to John to find another thread to bash on religion.

Well John, lets put it this way. All of the money its costing to bury the Pope... you could probably feed a given amount of kids in Africa for that, but the end result is the same. This is because there are too many people for the land to sustain (and the fact tht disease is rampant over there). The money spent on the Pope is miniscule next to what is needed over there to make a difference.

It sounds cruel, but its my opinion that we should let things work themselves out over there. It will result in a decrease in population, and hopefully make the area less troublesome to itself. I think the wrong thing to do is keep trying to feed more of them as the population grows in size and just in turn increase the problems they have.

Once they get their shit straightened out is when we should go in and try to change some things for the better (put infrastructure in, hospitals, etc). Right now, it'd be a bad thing to do as who knows if it'd be destroyed, or just taken over by another dictator.

If I HAD to guess a figure, I'd say about 1.325 Billion dollars. Give or take a .174 Billion.

Hi Eggs,

See, that is what gets me, YOU say I BASH religion - I am ONLY speaking to WHAT THEY DO - it is NOT me that is doing it IT IS THEM. ALL I am doing is saying something about WHAT THEY ARE DOING.

And IT IS RELIGION that tells people they MUST HAVE children. Well if you can not support them, why? What kind of life would they have?

And this still does not "absolve" what I said about the ENORMOUS amount of money being spent on this one "happening" WHILE children around the world STARVE for lack of food... And "everyone" is "so religious"....

If this isn't hypocracy....

Hi Witmaster,

I think it was said that is cost at least 40 MILLION to bury Ronald Regan.

All the while the country was being flushed down the "toilet" ...

Uh... Sorry, I must have misunderstood you. I thought the original question was how much it costs to bury the Pope?!? :hmmm:

John -

You constantly bring up Christianity and what you think is wrong with it. As to the "them" that is doing it, I dont see what they are doing wrong. Do they somehow owe these people in Africa something? Lets be accurate, they really dont. However, there is a ton of Christian charity, etc that makes its way to Africa. You can be assured of that.

Not all religion tells people they must have children. Not even every denomination in Christianity does that. Sure it'd be nice if we could toss some BC over their way, but lets be realistic, thats a whole lot of pills... and there is no guarantee they would take them. From my personal experience with third world countries, people dont always make sense when taking pills. ie. "If one is good, then all of them is even better" or "It wont hurt to skip a few days, because I've been taking them faithfully".

As to the enormous amount of money spent on this one circumstance, when you bury the leader of a faith you dont go dump his body in a dumpster somewhere. There needs to be some pomp and circumstance for the people.

I still say, let Africa sort its own problems out. We cant try and baby them the the whole way, they're going to have to make some of that progress on their own. So far, I havent seen much of it.

Hi Witmaster,

You did not misunderstand. I just mentioned the "Ronald Regan" aspects of all this...

Hi Eggs,

"Christians" ARE going into Africa and "preaching the word", right? I mean it is happening as we speak isn't it? They ARE "converting them" aren't they? They DO "collect money" from them in that effort don't they? And from them as well? And from around the world?

Wasn't Christ's body sorta "dumped" - at least as compared to this situation and all those prior Popes that died?

As for Africa - which is not the only place in the world with needs - what purpose is then with "converting people" if you do not "put your money where your mouth is"? I mean "religion" says one thing and ....

Sure seems to me to be an ENORMOUS amount of money to spend on all this while people in the world suffer - the CHILDREN - how does ANYONE "justify" all this... How can they "live with themselves" KNOWING this is going on and have a "big party"?

Take Care, John H.

Kindof a bad place to talk about starving children...most of us are eating enough calories to feed two people.

Of course, your right on all the points you make. Just becareful how far you take the definition of hypocracy. Next thing you know your'll be livin in a lean two by the railroad tracks having sold all of your belongings and mumbling something about subliminal messages in cheese-whiz ads.

Who the hell cares? I am sure the Catholic Church can afford to pay that bill. It's not TAXPAYER money.

Hi Eggs,

I am not Catholic, and I really don't consider them Christians. It is more a cult in my opinion, but to answer your questions:

"Christians" ARE going into Africa and "preaching the word", right? Yes

I mean it is happening as we speak isn't it? Yes

They ARE "converting them" aren't they? Yes

They DO "collect money" from them in that effort don't they? This would be No, they don't

And from them as well? Again a No

And from around the world? Again a No

Wasn't Christ's body sorta "dumped" - at least as compared to this situation and all those prior Popes that died? This would be a No, he had a rich man's burial

As for Africa - which is not the only place in the world with needs - what purpose is then with "converting people" if you do not "put your money where your mouth is"? I mean "religion" says one thing and .... This would be a No, Christians give Billions in charity and relief

Sure seems to me to be an ENORMOUS amount of money to spend on all this while people in the world suffer - the CHILDREN - how does ANYONE "justify" all this... How can they "live with themselves" KNOWING this is going on and have a "big party"?

Of course John, you will ignore all that I have said as if I didn't say it and go on with your rantings against religion and Christians. You really and honestly have no clue, but again you will ignore that and continue with your rantings as if I said nothing.

Thanks Craig, beat me to the punch while I was getting ready to go run :)

People that talk smack about Christians often dont realize just how much they give. Alot give their 10%, and then some. If there are ever any offerings in Africa (which I'm not sure of), that money isnt sent back and used in the US, its used over there. In most scenarios, churches over there are supported by churches back here in the US, who provide to help pay for the church building and also if there is need among the people.

There are also quite a few American doctors that are Christian that head over to Africa and perform services for free to the people.

Just out of curiosity John, how much of your pay check goes to Africa?

The world is a strange old place.....I have to agree that the money being spent on the popes funeral is over the top...along with all those peolpe who have gone to see him on display like a museum piece....Im all for paying my respects to the dead but I imagine most of them people only went to say "I Saw Him" (sure i'll get shit for typing this)

Each to their own I suppose...just what I think.

If not, shut the fuck up.

This guy brings up a thread about how much it is costing to bury the pope and how bad the Catholic church is, but posts many threads about sexual behaviour like fisting and the length of his penis obviously trolling to pick up other men online. Maybe he got kicked out of the Catholic church for obvious reasons. As for burying the Pope, the Catholic church can do as they see fit because they are paying for it. I know I'm not.

What a freak.

why the fuck r u people fighting about pope ?? how bout we all do a little cardio, summer is coming!!!

Thats what I'm talking about, just went for a nice little run through the hills. The weather is looking great already, about 80F I think :)

lol, watch me start a fight : The pope is just a old fart, life goes on and we should too, someone will replace him but who gives a fuck ??? And this is how i feel about it...

Aghhh, die you heathen bitch! *insert stabbing smiley*

Ahem, that wasnt meant to piss off any Catholics, just messing around :p

I got to thinking, and when i heard about all of these bells and whistles with his burial, I was a little ticked...or a millisecond. Sure, it will cost a fortune to bury the pope, but who cares, i'll spend $30 on a good case of beer and not blink twice. You more than likely own a vehicle that cost $50 to make but paid $20,000 for it. I am completely non-religious, but that doesn't make his impact on everyone else non-existent. I imagine it is mostly being paid for by the church anyway.

As for sending Bush to the funeral- Regardless of my religious beliefs, a large portion of this country believes in a religion that has something to do with the
Pope. If Tony Blair died today Bush would go to that funeral as well, and Blair is irrelevant in comparision to the Pope.

Hi I,

NO taxpayer money?

How about the security that has to be set up?

How about the trip for the President and others that are going with him - who do you think is paying for that trip and the security?

And that of all the other dignitaries from other counrties....

I am SURE the Catholic church WILL PASS the collection basket. Last time I was in one of their churches it was passed FOUR times for FOUR different collections. They MUST HAVE a hell of a light and candle, water and wine and inscense and maintenance of buildings bill...

Hi Kitty,

To be sure.

Sure Christians GIVE money, etc. but WHERE does that money REALLY GO? It kinda reminds me of how the rich like to have people believe that if they do not get THEIR money and riches first no one else will get a thing - the "trickle-down theory" - hell comparing the amount of money and riches the rich HAVE to that which they "trickle-down" to all others is less than the crums that fall off a table of a truly poor person... The amount that is being spent on this one "celebration" is ENORMOUS. And wasteful compared to what that money could do to help those REALLY IN NEED. I mean the Pope IS dead isn't he? And is SUPPOSED to represent Christ on earth? So how is all the money being spent and the effort for all this BENEFITING those IN GREATEST NEED - the children of the world. I would have much more respect for the Pope if he would have INSISTED that ALL the proceeds and effort for his funeral GO instead to the helping HONESTLY of the children of the world instead of putting on this great big show.

The Catholic church will have to open up another bank to accomodate all they take in from this side-show. IMO.

Cfs,

You always go off the deep end don;t you?

ANYONE that thinks this "celebration" is NOT WAY OUT AND WASTEFUL is screwy. If possible, ask GOD Himself what HE thinks about all this. ....

Africa IS NOT the only place in the world where there are NEEDY CHILDREN. And yes I do make damn sure CHILDREN benefit well from MY efforts.

Hi Pony,

Did you actually READ what I posted as reflected in your statements above?
If you did you would see that I ASKED a QUESTION and wanted comments from mature adults to DISCUSS the subject of fisting. From all angles. As for the length of my cock it was given AS A MEANS OF EXPLANING what I was saying NOT BRAGGING - RE-READ what I posted about that. Put your glasses on.

Also, I brought up the subject of the cost of this funeral BEING ENORMOUS and wondering what GOD HIMSELF would think especially as regards the children who are needy in this world and how the Pope is supposed to represent Christ... Christ WOULD NOT have wanted all this done for Him he would have wanted all this cost and effort DIRECTED for the BENEFIT of NEEDY CHILDREN around the world. Isn't that what the "religious types" always SAY should be done - and then they go out and have a HUGE EXPENSIVE celebration while CHILDREN STARVE......

It IS talking out of ALL sides of their mouths IMO...

Hi Question,

"Fighting" about the pope? If you see the post I made starting this thread....

It is some here that want a "fight" - I guess BECAUSE I brought up something VALID. So I guess it "ruffled feathers" on the "zealots"...

You are right, Summer is coming and GETTING BUILT TOTALLY is VERY IMPORTANT.
