I've been eating about 3-4 apples, 4-5 oranges, and at least one banana per day. My friend told me that this is way too much fruit and that it's only going to cause fat gain...

So, is fruit really not that great to snack on? Should I cut down?

Well what are your goals? That does look like too much fruit to me but that depends on your current goals and body composition.

Firstly - you should not be 'snacking' at all.

And yes - too much fruit can be detrimental to health and physique goals (but whether or not it will 'cause fat gains' will be dependent on your calorie intake).

Fruit IS healthy. But like everything it comes down to balance. I usually suggest about 3 peices of fruit per day but you can eat more than this if you make sure it fits into your diet. However - in order to prevent liver triglyceride formation issues then I would cap it off at the equivilant of ~50g of fructose....

So you consider that a small banana (100g flesh) has ~5g fructose... A medium apple (140g) has ~8g and a small navel orange (~140g) has ~3g then with the fruit you are eating you are probably coming very close to this total and you then need to consider other food sources too....

So I would suggest you might want to think about cutting it down.

Some foods just seem to hurt a cut and help a bulk. I'm bulking at 3800 cals on workout days and i only eat 3 pieces of fruit( a piece being grams of carbs). I think that is to much fruit for most, but measure your body fat and see what happens when you remove or add fruit in.

you need at least 10 servings of fruits and vegetables a day, so thats some good intake there

That's a blanket statement.

Explain how you really think that much fruit is good.

It depends. If you are within your calorie intake range and you are getting enough vegetables, protein and essential fat then I'd say go for it.

Now if the fruit is pushing you over your calorie limit or if it is screwing up your macros and you aren't getting enough protein or fat, then it should be rebalanced.

lots of vitamins and lots of fiber. I'm sure you stay regular:) Watch the scale and your measurements. If they are going up, cut back.

 No how about way too much freaking fructose

No way! This is too much fruit!

Bump to Jodi.

Although calorie concerns are the most important issues - as I stated above, too much fructose (>50-70g a day) has been shown to have detrimental effects on health and body composition.
