I know everyone always talks about genetics as having a huge impact on how far you can get with your training, and how easy or hard it can make things.

Lets say that my brother can put on muscle just by thinking about it. It's extremely easy for him. Does this automatically mean that i have the same potential as he does? Or am i way off on that one?

Are you his clone?

If not, then no, its not a certainty. Zygotes are not created equal, even from the same parents.

Either way, it's not like it matters. Everybody can get impressive results regardless. Unless you want to be a pro, its probably never going to matter.

I didn't mean i was relying on his genetics to be a base for my training. My brother is a fat slob so this is purely hypothetical! :D

I was just thinking about it today, when i met up with some friends of mine that are brothers. They are so similar in so many ways, but one takes his training pretty seriously and is pretty huge, and the other one does it every so often, but is almost the exact opposite.

I was just curious if he were to start training like the brother, then would he gain weight as easily. I've never seen anything written about that, but genetics gets talked about a lot, as does potential, so i was just curious.

Potential is 100% genetic.

However, potential plays a very small part in the insanely complicated equation that equals what we achieve.

ANYONE can get into good shape that is in good health, IMHO. You have to have the mind for it more than the genetics for it. Concentrate on health and add workouts. If I didn't workout an average woman that did would kick my ass and your ass on the same day.

You could kick your hypothetical brothers ass if you trained for it and he just sucked dick while you got chiseled for the hot babes.

The way I see it is this:

Genetics can be a limiting factor for any individual, but it is not a limiting factor for the vast majority of individuals. How many people are trained well-enough to see their genetics limiting what they achieve? IMO not too many.
