Getting Clean...

Some of you may know I fell victim to heroin about 3 weeks ago. It almost took life my when I overdosed and stopped breathing and received CPR then woke up in an ambulance. Stuff is so powerful that even after all of that I still started using again only days later.

So now after taking 4 to 6 hits s day I'm going cold turkey.

You have made the first steps in saving your life ! I will pray for you . I would STRONGLY recomend you seek out some kind of support like AA, NA or some others who can help you in this struggle. Their help would prove invalueable. I am a recovering heroin addict. Clean 7 yrs now. Addiction can't be overcome alone and there is so much good help out there. I chose to go to a detox and it is amazing how they can get you off in about 7 days. But that is the easy part, it is stayng off that is the battle and you will need some tools to be sucessful. If cold turkey doesn't work for you don't give up there is detox available. Everyone here is pulling for you my friend. You are so worth it !!!!

A few months back I was drinking and taking pills one night. I had a seizure and fell down 2 flights of stairs shattering both my shoulders and breaking both my front teeth. After that point I've never used alcohol or drugs again. My physical therapy is done and I'll only regain 70% of my shoulder movement. I'll never do overhead press again and some other movements. I lost alot of things in my life that night and the following weeks. Sometimes this is what it takes to realize that we cant continue using and lead our old way of living. If you want to live you need to stop abusing drugs its plain and simple.

The key to sobriety is Surrender, surrendering to the fact that you are powerless over the drug once you begin taking the drug. It is only then that you can truly be free. This is paradoxical and for most addicts in early recovery, very hard to understand. This is why recovering addicts need each other. In the Fellowship of NA it is said, "One addict helping another is with out parallel."

As a recovering addict I don't have to fight any longer. All I have to do for today, is be clean. I don't worry about tomorrow, it may not come and yesterday is gone; all I have is today.

Living this way can be learned and I have found it to be the source of my serenity. I'll challenge you, go to 6 NA meetings and report back, if you don't find them to be a source of strength, I'll eat my left shoe.

It's hard enough that I just fucked up and took some. My fever, cold chills, cold sweats, shaking and the feeling of complete shit all over my body went away within one minute....

I'm going to tapper the dosage down down....

I was in the middle of withdraws and I caved in about 3 hours ago and took a hit and taking a hit ends withdraws almost instantly.

My girl that I live with does it as well, so it's a battle for both of us.

you cant taper heroin, it wont work. it acts to fast and wares off to quicky. can you get some methadone tabs or liquid? you dont need much. if you can get 80-100mg i can help you out. you will be fine in 3-4 days. PM if ya need to

I'm not sure where your getting your info, but it does get easier. Yes, it is a life-long disease, but clean, the addict can have a normal, functional, non-obsessive life. Opioid withdrawal starts 8 to 12 hours after last use and can continue for 5 to 7 days. Please get some help, ask for it, you can't do this alone. This is not a question of willpower, this is an issue of disease.

My friend this is not something to fuck with. Tapering down, self med with methadone all the street remedies are gambling with your life. I just finished cancer treatment. When I found out I was sick I would do ANYTHING to stay alive and get better. This is no different. Get help. This is so much bigger and stronger than you are. Surrender is the key and the willingness to follow direction. Reach out, don't try to prove anything. Follow the path many others before you have taken. Right now you are very sick and not even capable of making good choices, one of the reasons for needing help.I can't say it strong enough - GET HELP !!!

So I could be totally wrong here, but why not smoke pot and drink until the physical addiction goes away? Seems like you could pass out with some beers and mask the symptoms with pot. I know it won't totally get rid of withdrawal but it would help.

When I have to quit smoking or drinking or whatever I first try to replace it so my mind isn't bored thinking about what I'm not using. Then after the physical addiction is gone it's easier to deal with it and if you end up smoking weed you just traded down and weed is easy to quit. JMO I'm not a doctor. Good luck.

Besides Roids I never did a thing in my life, not even pot. Go big or go home right? Lol

I've been popping a few sleeping pills right when I get home so for the most part I have been a sleep as much as possible, guess it's a nice way to avoid the fevers, leg and back pain, puking, cold chills, cold sweats and mostly the unreal insomnia that comes with withdraw.
