I'm not sure I buy into that. What I can tell you is that I did grow up rock-bottom poor. The idea that being poor is an excuse to do any crimes is wrong.

It doesn't matter if you're poor, middle class or rich, everyone makes their own choices. I don't mean choices like "What car should I buy?", I mean choices like, "Will I steal?"

I believe that crime is a huge problem in urban cities within Russia, and former Soviet satellite countries. Many counties in Eastern Europe are complete shit holes, and they are almost completely white. Also, there are countries that are almost completely black, but have far less urban violence than the US.

I am with LAM, but I will also add that violence is determined more by poverty, culture, and education.

I know nothing first hand about living in that type of economic state. but I do know that I was born in raised in an environment that is the exact opposite of those born into poverty. so from that I think about a person whose life experiences and environment was the polar opposite of mine and that gives me some insight.

I've lived in the most rural part of the Philippines. Where everyday life is spent figuring out where your next bowl of rice is. Where not everyone has running water, but that doesn't matter, because no matter what, you have to boil it anyways. I've spent a considerable amount of time living among those who live in abject poverty. dirt floors poverty. The poor here in the US (i'm not talking about the homeless, that is another matter and statistics show it is a function of mental instability, which is a break down not of the economic system, but of how we treat mental health here) who still have a roof over their head, 2 cars in the driveway, a flat screen tv, and order pizza hut at the start of every month shouldn't have people like you LAM making excuses for them every time they commit a crime. That is the victim mentality

There are a small handful of black countries with lower homicide rates but they're tiny island countries...Mauritius, Sao Tome and Principe. I can't think of any with large urban populations though.

Niger's capital city is Niamey. It is a prominently black city in a prominently black country with a smaller murder rate than the US. I think there are one or two more countries in Africa that are prominently black that have less murders per capita than the US, but like you said, they are small and have few major cities if any at all.
