Since I just started back in the gym close to 2 months ago, I added squats. While everything else is going up in weight, it seems like 135 lb squats is where I'm at for the moment. I usually do them after leg presses. i shoot for 8 reps for 3 sets. Is there anything to actually improve your strength gains quicker on squats?

Don't get caught up in wanting to pile numbers on quickly. you will fall into a bad stump and potentially get injured.

Remember, the biggest display of strength is perfect form. Once you nail that, numbers will come. It takes time, you may only squat 175 by the end of the year, maybe in a few months. It all depends on YOU.

Are you doing squats after leg presses?

If so, cut that out right now. Do squats before leg presses. You'll find you have more energy.

In terms of improving strength, try doing some assistance work revolved around your squats. Post up a video of you squatting, once your weak spots are recognized you can get a suggestion of lifts to help strengthen your weak spots.

Ex. i started doing Bulgarian Split Squats because of my few problems in my front squat.

Hope that helps.

Make sure you are doing a full range of motion. I see people going down 45 degrees all the time. And also, I would do squats before any other exercises because it's pretty much the most important exercise you can do, so treat it as such.

Thanks I will change to doing squats first from now on. I'm determined to improve form and usually not big on the weight issue, just got to be more patient lol.

You'll probably notice you can do more weight when you do it before presses.

Progress will come over time if your form is together.

Take videos and check your form.

Also, what are you eating?

yea start with squats..not legpress...duh

I started squats on the Smith rack to get a feel for it. Once I broke 300lbs on the Smith I jumped to the squat rack. Form is everything, and I honestly feel that the Smith helped me get decent form.

Good Post!

I recommend starting with 3 sets of leg extensions to worm up your knees first than do the squats. two months is defiantly a short time so just be patient and work on your form and slowly ad a few pounds a week to your squat. Also wear a good belt when you squat to protect your lower back.

+1. I love to pre-exhaust my quads before squats. I'd rather struggle through sets of 405 than have to deal with 495 on my back and knees.
