I have had on and off pain from a herniated disc and sometimes I have to take meds to stop the pain. I do see a doc and it does go away and its that time again. The pain killer I take is called Tramadol. Any thoughts about this and uptake, on the body or whatever?

Thanks.

I would really appreciate your input. My back is fucking killing me. I set up an appointment with the therapist.

Okay cool. Yeah I was more concerned about the reaction of the two. Plus it doesnt have acetaminophen.

Thanks.

Simply put Tramadol and its metabolites are processed via the liver like almost anything we take in our bodies. Tramadol Hcl (ultram) is metabolized via at least two different demethylation processes in the liver. The cytochrome enzyme system responsible for this is apparently seperate than that of most methylated PHs so you're not really going to have to worry about further liver toxicity.

But with added liver stress from PHs you may get a slightly higher level of free tramadol as its metabolism could be slowed....... but probably nothing to worry too much about, maybe a little more lethargy or other sides if anything noticeable at all.

IMO the pain is going to hinder your gains and a lot of other things so control it. But I always think your doc should know EVERYTHING you're taking. :winkfinger:

I totally agree!! First of all i totally agree that you should be upfront with your doc and get your levels checked as well. I have had issues with a blown L4 and L5.. Took a few years off then started hittin it again. My suggestion would be to 1. start off SLOW. Don't let your ego injure you worse. 2. Spend time strengthening your core.. I know its not as fun as stacking plates on the bar but it makes a hell of a difference. 3. Stretch and do proper warm ups. 4. LISTEN TO YOUR BODY. Feel free to PM if you need. Good luck bro

Yeah my doc is awesome. She puts me on this machine that looks like a torture device. It pulls me apart and stretches out my spine. I grow at least 4 inches. This is an old injury so every 3-6months I have to get it fixed. Wont stop me though. After 15yrs of this I'm able to block it out(most of the time).

Hell yes! keep kickin ass man! I seriously believe when ppl let their injuries stop them they really fall off and it wrecks them in so many ways. I see it all the time. Just be smart, pain is still an indication that something isnt right so listen but don't let it stop you.

That is solid advice! I have had back problems for the past 10 yrs and have had four surgeries. Fused from L2 down and it sucked not being able to lift. But, it is important to go slowly and make sure you strengthen your core and you will get through it. It took me a while but I am throwing weight up like I never have before. Bench 455. So be patient and work through it slowly, you will have plenty of time to lift heavy weights once you are healed up. Good luck!
