Cardio, a question I need answers on. Opinions needed on performing cardio right after BB/circuit training - or AT ALL :

I performed (high) interval cardio at 60-80% MHR right after weight training (36-4x week 20-40min session). I thought this was the right way and taking fat burners to accerate fat loss (ripped fuel). I was told I was hindering my gains in BB.

I know cardio is important, but would it hurt if I cut it out for a period (3-4 weeks)??

Logically, I think that I could cut it out for a peroid of time just to work on my muscles.

Just some feedback please......

Try reading this. Most likely it would benefit you to cut out your cardio. :)

cardio

I despise cardio.

Anytime I've tried to incorporate it into my schedule I've lost muscle.

You couldn't pay me to do it!

It's strickly weight training and a proper cutting diet for me :D

I can see how you could gain weight doing cardio:

1. You burn up muscle.
2. This slows down your metabolism.
3. Now your not burning calories as efficiently.
4. They may be stored as fat.

Just a thought.

HIIT cardio and Fat burners at the same time? That would scare the crap out of me!! I would be freaked out about having a heart attack or something.

Deja vous?

Yeah I hear that I stop cardio when I start taking an ECA your heart can only go so fast.

That is why the stuff is banned in military bases now. They had soldiers who were just dropping dead from heart attacks during training. I don't mess with ECA at all.

I don't think it would hurt if you cut out cardio for good.

I think it would unless you were getting an aerobic workout from somewhere else or if you just don't care about your overall health.Without aerobic exercise ya got weak lungs, and that can't be good thing.Personally I don't like weak anything.

If you aren't huffing and puffing when your weight training, then I think your resting too long between sets.

Ever try circuit training?

No I don't like weak anything either. That is why I DON'T DO CARDIO. I work to hard to add muscle mass to risk throwing it all away by doing cardio. Also the more lean muscle mass you have the more calories you burn at rest.:thumb:

Right, thanks bear. Weight lifting doesn't only have to be anerobic. By using training principals like circut training, HIIT, drop sets, ect. it does become more aerobic.

I don't know about you but when I get done hitting the weights I am exhausted.

1. No proof of that at all.
2. Do a little reading on HIIT and something called Excess Post Exercise Oxygen Consumption (EPOC)
3. A result of #2, so that is unsubstantiated.

To the original poster: fatloss is a product of a calorie deficit. Whether you create that deficit by dieting, taking thermals, or doing cardio is up to you.

In defense of Bear I think he is refering to regular cardio in his post here, which would make HIIT and EPOC irrelevant.

Agree. Best way to lose weight........eat in a caloric defecit and some form of excersise (cardio or weights). I prefer weight training.

See i think it's the opposite if your huffing and puffing betwwen sets that's a good sign you need to build your wind up.Weight training is an anaerobic activity intended to increase muscular strenth not cardiovascular endurance their is hybrids such as swimming, tennis and circut training. If your doing circut training then your doing cardio. So why are you saying don't do cardio when you are just in a combined form. If your just lifting weights and that's winding you that isn't cardio that's out of shape.

Disagree. If you're not "huffing & puffing" that is a sign you are not working w/ enough intensity. If you do a set of 8 reps on squats and you're not breathing hard w/ an increased heart rate you're not doing it right!

Yup you eat enough food and nothin gonna make you lose weight
:)

Ok that's the only time i huff&puff is squats but no other.

Don't think that's it.I go to failure and take no longer than minute and 1/2 between sets but ain't breathin hard on nuthin besides squats and cardio :)

And there's no smart way to use a cigarette let alone any benefits same goes for alcohol wait there might be one benefit of booze :D

It just pisses me off that it all boils down to money, the only reason that alcohol and cigarettes are legal is because the governemnt makes a shit load of money from the taxes on them. Even though thousands of people die every year from them.

I would rather that the fuking government put a 5% tax on all supplement sales and keep their fuking noses out of it.

Pretty soon all prohormones will be illegal too....where will it stop?

Let's say you keep your calories the same.

Now you lose weight, but in the form of muscle.

Your metabolism slows down, hence you may not burn calories as you've lowered your required or maintenance level for them.

I did say it was just a thought.

And I'm sorry, I can't present you with proof, it has only been my experience.

All I know is I cut well, without losing muscle, without adding cardio to my routine, it just takes a little longer.

The times I've tried to speed things up with cardio, yeah sure I lost fat, but muscle as well, that will never do, and it won't happen to me ever again.

This is just a little example of how I keep my rest to a minimum, get a great aerobic as well as anearobic workout from weight training.

Thursday, chest/biceps.

(And these are done fairly heavy, use your 10 rep max's, and knock out 6 reps each time, less as you fatigue).

Alternate back and forth between these two movements with 15-30 seconds rest between them, 15 at the beginning, then up to 30 as you fatigue, non-stop for 20 minutes.

weighted parallel bar dip
EZ-bar curl

Break for 5-10 minutes, then repeat with:

incline press
preacher curl

Try it, and tell me not only don't you get the pump of your life, but a great cardio vascular workout as well.

I agree with you that cardio is not the answer. However I do use HIIT cardio during the final weeks of a cut to drop a little bit more body fat.

This post is specifically referring to HIIT cardio and I have to disagree with your statment "Now you lose weight, but in the form of muscle." If you are doing HIIT cardio you have just a good a chance of losing body fat while preserving, if not possibly gaining muscle. Just like Yan said check out Excess Post-exercise Oxygen Consuption (EPOC). The best example I can think of is an olympic sprinter. They are just about a muscular and shredded as you can get. Their sport and the training for their sport consists mostly of HIIT cardio, yet they do not lose muscle. If anything their lower bodies probably gain muscle.

I've just never had good luck with any cardio, regular or HIIT.

Could be my diet wasn't in order, every time.

But I'm still never doing anything more intense than brisk walking, you can't make me I tell ya! ;)

Hey man I agree with ya. I am a cardio hater 4 life. I only do it during the last 3-4 weeks of a cut IF I feel I need ot. This is a big if. I have 5 weeks left on my cut right now and I am praying that I wont have to do any cardio. I was just sticking up for all those who like (for what ever reason) HIIT cardio. I swear buy it as far as results go.

And you retain ALL your lean body mass?

I swear to you man, I reain all my lbm when doing HIIT cardio. HIIT cardio is pretty closely related to lifting weights.

Must have been my diet then.

5 weeks left on your cut.

Are you doing circuit style training now?
