Over the past 2 years I've had protein intakes of about 1 - 1.5 grams per lb. Not unusual, nor excessive. During these periods I've gotten gout in my left ankle two times. My Uric Acid levels are normal, but my doctor claims that it's not that this is not unusual.

The bouts of gout can be an entire coincidence, result of genetics, or possible to linked to diet and protein intake.

Has anyone else ever linked a case of gout with protein intake?

gout is definitely hereditary but excess purines are said to be a major trigger. from what I have read in the past it appears that genetics also plays a role in the amount of purines that a person produces. one could have a high protein diet with low purines and another a moderate protein diet with high purines..

LAM, thanks for the information. I'm on Cholcichine (sp?) now and it's working.
