I know where to get everything based on what I have read in other posts.

I would really like to get a list of what you guys think is MANDATORY pieces of equipment for a home gym. I don't want to waste my time buying useless machines. I don't have a crazy budget either.

Here is what I have now:

Incline/Decline adjustable bench
Dumbs 10-40 (I have a wife that uses the room too)
Kettles 20 and 40

I don't have any bars or plates but those are easy to come by.
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

If you can rig up some kind of rack or pick up a cheap one then that's golden.

Pull up bar.

I'd get an adjustable single cable stack as well but that's just me.

bench/squat rack combo, cheaper than a power cage and you can get alot done on it

as many plates as you need to DL/squat

pullup bar

adjustable dumbells

Powerblocks !!!!! I love mine.

That's what my set up is. Keep it simple and basic.

yep mine was cheap as hell

I'd like to get a trap bar and ez curl bar because doing shrugs/dl's with the bar in front fucks with my shoulders for some reason, and one of my favorite tri exercises used to be skullcrushers but it's hard to do them with an olympic bar lol

this largely depends on your goals but for e i think i would get the following as a must:

olympic bar
adjustable bench
rack
variety of dumbbels
plates for olympic bar

with the above one could do squats, dead lifts, bench press, shoulder press, bb rows, pull-ups, chin-ups, dips and a variety of iso lifts for arms.

I have about $600 or so in my gym which has a smith machine/rack with 850lb olypic plates(good deal)adjustable d/b's 10-75lb ironmaster's(most costly thing i have)a full blown cable machine with leg press,pull-up bar,med-ball,swiss ball,all atachments,bands alot of misc.

It took awhile to get all this but i did cheaply.
So check local papers to get some great deals.

what kind you reccomend? Ie. sport/classic etc. what's the difference?

I have the older ones. The classic Elite. They go from 5lbs to 130lbs by 2.5lb increasments.

I think the only diffrence is the handle but not really sure. I have had mine for about 8 years. I even travel with mine. I will do walking lunges thru the hotel parking lot, lol
