i'm gonna be short on time for awhile so i'm just gonna do squats, pushups, dips and chins. how often should i workout? i was thinking takin 2 days off after each workout. any advice would be greatly appreciated.

As far as recovery, you know your body better than anyone else. Only you can answer how many days on/off.

This!

I find splits too restrictive. It's nice to have a template but I rarely stick to it. If you're not listening to your body and training more instinctively as you get more experienced, then you're missing out

Good exercise selection. If it were me though I wouldn't neglect shoulders so I'd also throw in a few sets of overhead presses a week. Also, I'd probably swap the pushups for bench press so I can go heavier for less reps.

Personally, I'd try to do 3 sets of each lift two to three times a week so taking 2 days off for every day of lifting would probably work for me.

Depending on the intensity and duration of each workout, one to two days off between each workout is fine.

I do a 2 on
2off
1on
2 off
cardio on off days one day totally off

I have just recently switched to the routine that I am going to outline below.

Sat: Chest / Back (Horizontal Pull) / Abs
Sun: Legs
Mon: Delts / Traps / Arms
Tues: Off
Wed: Deadlifts / Chest / Back (Vertical Pull) / Arms
Thurs / Fri: OFF

This works out great for me. You get extra indirect arm work with the chest/back split. And, additional leg work (Hams) with deadlifts.

I have found that going 4 days per week vs the 6 I was up to is helping my recovery and also am growing at 45 years old.

I am going to stick with this split for a while as I really am feeling the difference, especially in my shoulders and back, which many people at my gym have commented on as getting much bigger and fuller.

I just went to 2 days off between full body workouts. Two days for heavily trained muscules to rest, recover and build back up should be about right. Your body will let you know. As long as you are able to get 1 more rep or go a little heavier you're on track.

Pwloiacino, how do you like that back work out, splitting it up?

Hello Spark:

I love the back workouts. Horizontal one day and vertical the next. I really allows you to hit your back from very different directions/angles. Since I have been doing this split, my back is always sore after each workout. I have also noticed that my back is larger and fuller looking. Many of my buddies around me have also been commenting on how much better my back is looking.

Also, my back is getting stronger, which is also helping me do more weight in my pressing movements for both chest and shoulders...

I switch between chest/delts , back , legs , arms done Mon , Wed , Fri with the weekends off and chest/delts/tris , back/bis , legs done 2 on 1 off , 2 on 2 off .
