how to tell if a workout has been beneficial

did 45 min. on treadmill burned 400 cal. so the machine says.
3 sets of military press then
760lbs on squat press 4 sets, could do more
benched a little, then leg extensions . wonder if i accomplished anything because i dont feel tired.

thinking i should do 90 min. on tread mill or would doing to much have negative
results ?
 
cardi before weights is a big no no
 
at least 6 hours
 
If i come home after a workout and dont feel like i spent every last ounce of energy that i have, then i didnt have a good workout.

after each training session it's best to give your body a rest so the endocrine system can do it's job and get back to baseline levels. remember that controlling cortisol is the 2nd best way to increasing anabolism.
 
I've noticed that when I had done cardio before weights in the past, that I would be too beat to do weights afterwards. Cardio after weights is great though! Still tired, but I feel like I am running till I'm on E (empty) which is a great feeling. Gotta make sure to stretch well though.
 
yeah, my lifting partner and I have been getting in the habit of lifting first and then playing a couple hard games of 1on1 basketball afterwards. We definitely feel like we've got good workouts after that. Can't do it on leg days though, we just wipe out on the b-ball court with our jelly legs.
