Does anyone do hip adduction/abduction exercises - cable, lever, unilateral/bilateral?

I just never do, keep kinda thinking it's a waste of time... am I wrong?

cheers,
D.

Not me...I think they suck moosec#ck

the various types of squats are much more effective

The abductor machine is for chicks. :thumb:

LOL...I do them at every leg workout! Putting serious effort into abduction/adduction machines (of course after you have done the basics) will make you stronger on your core leg lifts, and will add detail to the inner thigh (better bringing out the sartorious), and the outer glute, which makes a visible difference if you are lean.

Nope, they are not just for women!

Im going to call them the "Good Gopro" "Bad Gopro" machines from now on LOL

I "have" to do them

Alrighty then...

Plenty of research indicates doing the seated hip adduction/abduction machines are bad, especially for the ladies. It has to do with the Q-angle and propogating a muscular imbalance between the 2 movements. If you google most of those words you can find out why doing them seated is bad. I believe doing them with extended hips is alright, though.

Yeah, I've read some of that before....I believe its bull, but I've read it! :D

Pretty hard to disregard good research, although most of it is done mostly on women.

I should reread some of them. However, I have had some female clients doing these movements for years at a time, and never has there been anything but positive effects. I think that problems arise when these machines are relied on soley, without the use of basic movements like squats, lunges, leg presses, stiff legs, etc.

I think that is one reason, the other being that adduction is so much easier so most chicks just slap an extra 30lbs on that movement.

Any links to the studies?

I will PM you the study, it is from a pay site so I can't post it. Gimme a sec,,,

I agree, but if a woman has a decent trainer, he/she will not allow that imbalance to take place.

Yeah, but I though we were talking about you. :p

I use to pull my groin muscle (actually I think I teared it) a lot and was thinking about doing some because I do feel a little of you groin muscle working. Problem is it looks gay with a guy doing it, but looks hot when a girls does it.

Most of the MALE pros use these machines while prepping for shows. I used to train aside Nasser El Sonbaty when I lived in California, and he used both the adduction and abduction machines at every workout when getting ready for all his contests. Nobody told HIM he looks gay ;)

I used them both last night. Gave me an excuse to talk to the hottie using the machine beside me. :D

And thus another good reason to use these machines...natural testosterone boost!!

That's because he would promptly eat them.

Was he wearing his trademark pink striped shorts? :D

When I met him he weighed 335 lbs. The guy I was with asked him, "What do you eat???" I was like, not what, but WHO?? LOL.

We used to use them quite a bit when I was in college, I think they helped a lot when I was on the mat. Now, I use them at the end of my workouts now and sometimes I'll pin a couple of plates to the stack and burnout a couple sets of leg extensions and ham curls.

A female training partner of mine used to call them the "You can have it/No you can't" machines.
