insulin resistance

I do know of 1 simple way but there may be better ways to do it, perhaps tests done by a doctor etc. But the way I know is simple eat some simple carbs and afterwards see how your body reacts. Some people can feel full of energy whilst others become sleepy (I myself do that!) If you become tired I believe you are slighty insulin resistant. Hope that helps my friend...

I'm unsure sorry, maybe somebody else can answer that. It seems to me like endo's such as myself highly react to them and should limit sugar. Mesmo's slightly, just keep it in moderation and ecto's can eat crappy foods for fun and just burn it all of. I'm sure your age will play a part too when your younger you have a faster metabolism I believe.

i'm a pure endo too, age 20 but i have a poor metabolism i can't get away with cheating or skipping meals at all :(

I understand totally I'm the same :suicide: ... Guess we just got to stick at it, train hard and eat smart...:spaz:

how could i know if i am insulin resistant ....do i need a specific test to know that?? and if i am would that make any difference in my refeed day??

The test involves having a Fasting Blood Sugar test, then you will drink a beverage conaining 50 or 75 grams of glucose, followed by another blood sugar test each hour for three hours.

It's a pain.

Do you have any syptoms of insulin resistence (symptoms of hypoglycemia shortly after eating)? Cause if not, I wouldn't worry.

i search in google about symptoms of hypoglycemia and i think yes those symptoms of diziness and confusion and feling week i have them some times also i had shakes when i started training for the first couple of months it was terrible.....

Are you eating often enough? Because you can get these syptoms without having insulin resistence.

Do you have any risk factors? Are you overweight or sedentary? Does your family have a history of diabetes? Are you over 40?

VanessaNicole

i am 20 .... i am not much over weight maybe 18 bf% and i am cutting now i eat regularly and i have a good diet i don't have history of diabetes but i have many ppl in my family that are extremely over weight nearly most of my family is.....
http://diabetes.niddk.nih.gov/dm/pubs/hypoglycemia/index.htm

the site says that these symptoms may occur without diabetes as u said and recommends these steps

To relieve reactive hypoglycemia, some health professionals recommend taking the following steps:

eat small meals and snacks about every 3 hours

exercise regularly

eat a variety of foods, including meat, poultry, fish, or nonmeat sources of protein; starchy foods such as whole-grain bread, rice, and potatoes; fruits; vegetables; and dairy products

choose high-fiber foods

avoid or limit foods high in sugar, especially on an empty stomach

is this enough for me to get away from these symptoms?? actually when i stick well with my diet i rarely feel dizzy or experience any thing strange but when i skip one meal it all messes up

You should see your family doctor to have your blood sugar checked and insulin sensitivity evaluated.

Your diet must be decently low carb with some fiber and good unsaturated fats, you wouldn't feel good when you stick to it. You need to watch your sleep patterns. Poor sleep hygeine can play havoc with blood sugar even when diet is pretty good. Regular cardio is absolubely necessary as well for glucose regulation and insulin sensitivity as well.

nice feed back ..... but if i am used to those symptoms and know how to limit them shall i still se a doctor? ... as i said i don't have something serious it's all under control i'll even limit saturated fats even more and high glycemic index carbs and i'll begin to improve my sleeping habits......is this enough or i still have to see a doctor??

Well, you don't know if its a problem with too much, or not enough, insulin release. If there isn't enough insulin, thats a problem that may need medical intervention, Assassin.

Its up to you. I would do a search on insulin insensitivity and read up on common vitamin deficiency.

Yes, you might want to be careful about saturated fats, and keep to unsaturated fats. PM me, and I'll point you to a good link on dietary fats that you should read.
